4.6 Configuring XLS
The XLS FireFinder is a fire detection and extinguishing control unit approved by
FM and ULC. It can handle detection lines supporting addressable points and
communicate with peer units over an RS-485 network (XNET).
XLS units can communicate to an external system over an RS232 connection
(RPM interface) using the FSI protocol.
The physical configuration for XNET networks is first defined for the hardware unit
setup using the Zeus Tool, and then ported to the Composer environment using an
export file (XML format) created by a dedicated tool.
The NK82xx units can support the FSI protocol for XNET on any of their serial
lines, and provide connectivity to DM8000 systems.
4.6.1 Version supported
DMS8000 can support the XLS firmware version 6.00.21 and higher, and the cor-
responding Zeus Tool V6.00 and higher.
In order to communicate with the XLS units, the NK82xx units should be equipped
with firmware 4.20 (or higher) that is included in the DMS8000 installation package.
4.6.2 XLS/XNET connectivity: technical notes
4.6.2.1 Zeus Tool
In the Zeus configuration tool for XLS units, note the following parameters:
In the Detailed View / Properties of the Project node, the NFPA System Type:
if set to Proprietary, the event acknowledgement will be individually. Otherwise,
it will be handled by block (event ACK by category).
This parameter must match the Composer setting (see p.135).
In the Detailed View / Properties of the Serial Port node:
Serial Device Type must be FSI.
Recommended Serial Port Baud rate is 19200. This setting should match
the Composer setting (see p.135).
As
ynchronous Communication Setting must be E71.
FSI scope should be FSI Global to enable the communication for the entire
XNET.
All FSI options, starting from FSI Enhanced Protocol, then FSI List, FSI Ac-
knowledge, and so on, should be set, thus enabling all control capabilities
from MM8000.
The optional Geographical View of the XLS objects cannot be imported in
Composer. Therefore, such a structure should be reproduced manually using
the Geographical tool in Composer.
