INTRODUCTION The Model WAIO Wide Area Input and Output Module from Siemens Building

Technologies, Inc., as shown in Figure 1, is a remotely located, general purpose

input / output module. It provides four supervised input circuits (dry contacts only) for

remote system monitoring and four open collector outputs to drive LEDs, incandes-

cent lamps, or external relays.

Wide Area Input and Ouput Module (WAIO)

OPERATION Every time a change of state of the input is detected, a unique RS485 message is

sent to the NCC. A message from the NCC directed to the WAIO will control the

open collectors to activate any of the four outputs to drive LEDs, 24 incandescent

lamps or relays. The WAIO has the flexibility to communicate to the NCC through the

HUB-4 at a distance of up to 1200 feet over data grade lines.

Controls and Indicators The WAIO has one reset push button, one yellow LED and two green LEDs. The

reset button will reset the WAIO only and not the remote system to which it is

connected.

POWER (Green) Normally ON. When illuminated, indicates that power

for the WAIO is applied to the card.

PRE-INSTALLATION ROTARY ADDRESS SWITCHES TROUBLE (Yellow) Normally OFF. When illuminated, indicates that the WAIO has detected a trouble (open circuit or short circuit) or that the card microprocessor has failed. May illuminate for 2-4 seconds when initially powered. POLLING (Green) Normally ON. Pulses to indicate communication to the HUB-4. Each WAIO has two ten-position rotary switches (refer to Figure 2) that are used to set the module address.

INSTALLATION Remove all system power before installation, first battery then AC. (To power up, connect the AC first, then the battery.) Be sure to set the rotary address switches and wire the WAIO before mounting the unit to the electrical box. (Refer to WIRING on page 4.) Install the WAIO in a UL listed 4-11/16” X 2-1/8” electrical box. (See Figure 3.) 1. Install a UL approved 4-11/16” x 2-1/8” electrical box in the desired location for mounting the WAIO. 2.
