Upgrade Kit for MDACT Multi-Point Digital Alarm Communicator
Fire Safety
The Model NIM-2D-UK Upgrade Kit from Siemens
Building Technologies, Inc. provides the user with the
material to upgrade the MDACT Multi-Point Digital
Alarm Communicator.
CAUTION
Electronic equipment is extremely vulnerable to
static discharge. Exercise the utmost care when
performing this upgrade.
To upgrade an MDACT Multi-point Digital Communica-
tor, remove the old U4 and replace it with the new U4
(P/N 161-599382) following the steps listed below.
1. Power down the system, battery first, then AC.
2. Remove the MDACT plug-in board from the MOM-4
or MOM-2. On the NIM-2D side of the board,
locate U4. This IC has a label attached to the top
surface that indicates the IC number and the
software revision currently installed. Make certain
that the IC number on the module corresponds to
the IC number in the replacement kit.
3. Note where and how the IC is positioned on the
module. Refer to Figure 1 to note the position of
the diagonal cut on U4.
4. Remove the old IC from its socket using a PLCC
extraction tool. If you do not have this tool, it is
available from Siemens Fire Safety. Order Model
number PMI-Tool.
NOTE: Do not attempt to use any other type of
tool. Damage to the socket can result.
5. Remove the new IC from the upgrade kit. Be
careful to avoid static discharge.
IMPORTANT
Place the new IC in the same pin location on
the socket as the one that was removed. If the
IC is installed incorrectly, severe damage to
the module can occur.
6. Place the new IC loosely into the socket. Press it
firmly into place by applyng pressure in the center
of the IC. Once fully seated the IC will be flush
with the top of the socket.
CAUTION
Be sure that the diagonal cut in the new IC is
positioned as it was in the old IC. Check that
the IC is properly seated in the socket and that
all the IC pins are properly aligned with the
connector.
7. Discard the old IC.
8. Re-install the MDACT Multi-Point Digital
Communicator in the MOM-4 or MOM-2.
9. Power up the system, AC first, then battery.
