Modular installation system –
overview
General information on modular
room automation
With its boxes and the many KNX
sensors and actuators, the modular
installation system Gamma instabus
from Siemens offers outstanding
solutions for decentralized and
flexible applications.
The different designs of the Room
Control Box AP 641, the Control
Module Box AP 118 and the flush-
mounting devices allow a flexible
installation in different locations in
a room: in installation ducts, floors,
ceilings and in flush-mounting boxes.
This system offers a great functional
variety for installations as flush
mounting, surface mounting, in para-
pet ducts, in false ceilings and under
raised floors.
The two control boxes are equipped
with RS or RL sensor/actuator modules
in a specific shape for quick installa-
tion. The modules functioning as
binary inputs, binary outputs, switch-
ing actuators, shutter blind actuators,
universal dimmers, and switching/
dimming actuators as well as thermo
drive actuators are full KNX bus partici-
pants. The RS and RL modules have
identical functionality as the flush-
mounting actuators and are also
available for different installation
types and areas with identical con-
figuration possibilities. As a result,
the devices use a common application
program regardless of their mounting
variant – i.e. devices for installation
in the Room Control Box and Control
Module Box as well as flush mounting
with or without a mounting frame.
Advantages of the modular
installation systems:
• Plug-in terminals for one- and multi-
strand wires without end sleeves and
with possibility of through-wiring
• The actuator can be placed close to
where the function is executed, i.e.
the user operation interface and the
actuator can be installed in the same
location.
• Reduced wiring and fewer flush-
mounting boxes must be installed.
The actuator is accessible for main-
tenance under the user operation
interface.
