Gateway
A gateway is an H.323 component which connects H.323 endpoints in an IP network to
telephones in the public telephone network. It translates between H.323 and ISDN proto-
cols.
GSM
Global System for Mobile Communications. Standard for digital mobile communications
and the basis for the German D and E cellular network.

Abbreviation of "gateway".

H.323
H.323 is a group of standards which describes the transmission of call and fax data in pack-
et-oriented networks such as IP networks. These standards are set down in the H.323 se-
ries of ITU-T recommendations (International Telecommunication Union – Telecommuni-
cation Standardization Sector).

Siemens HiPath (from "Highly Integrated Pathwork") is an innovative strategy which imple-
ments an extensive IP migration concept and thereby facilitates the integration of multime-
dia communication in existing corporate IP networks.

Hypertext Markup Language. Standard for displaying Web pages, developed by the World
Wide Web (or W3) Consortium that is responsible for WWW standardization.
HTTP
Hypertext Transfer Protocol. Platform-independent, TCP/IP-based network protocol for
data transmission in the World Wide Web.
HTTPS
Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure. In contrast to HTTP, all data is transmitted in encrypted
form.
