Radioisotope Fume Hoods
Fume hoods used with volatile radioactive materials also require an individual type of
exhaust system utilizing 18 gauge, welded, Type 316 stainless steel. However, the
overall physical arrangement of the exhaust system need not be different than any
other individual exhaust system used for a general purpose fume hood. The only
additional requirement that may apply is that a charcoal or HEPA filter be added
between the fume hood exhaust collar and the exhaust system ductwork if certain
types of radioactive material are to be used in the fume hood.
