10.1 Communication troubleshooting
1. Check the following:
There is power at the device.
The LCD shows the relevant data.
The device can be programmed using the handheld programmer.
If any fault codes are being displayed see General Fault Codes (Page 121) for a detailed
list.
2. Verify that the wiring connections are correct.
3. See the table below for specific symptoms.
Symptom Corrective action
The device cannot be programmed via the
handheld programmer.
Ensure Lock (6.1.) is set to the unlock value.
You set a SITRANS LR260 parameter via
remote communications but the parameter
remains unchanged.
Ensure Lock (6.1.) is set to the unlock value, then try
setting the parameter via the handheld programmer.
Ensure Communications control (5.2.) is set to Read/
Write to allow you to write parameters to SITRANS
LR260.
Some parameters can be changed only when the
device is not scanning. Try pressing Mode to put
the device into PROGRAM mode.
If you see unanticipated displays. For ex‐
ample:
PROGRAM mode displayed instead of
Measurement mode
The wrong parameter displayed in
response to a command
A parameter displayed in response to
no command
Ensure no infrared-capable device is close to
SITRANS LR260. Any device with infrared capabilities
(laptops, cell phones, PDAs) can cause interference
which simulates a command to the SITRANS LR260,
potentially causing it to switch modes or to change a
parameter.
Operation is erratic
Ensure the Hand Programmer is not being used at the
same time as SIMATIC PDM.
