Models 8715 Audible Base for Model X1 Series Intelligent, Analog Detectors
Features
Model 8715 is compatible with conventional Model X1-series detectors
Produces 85dB audible signal (Steady or Temporal)
Surface mounting
UL 464 Listed;
FM, CSFM & NYCFD Approved
Product Overview
The Model 8715 Audible Base contains a pre-wired,
audible piezo-electric device that produces an 85
decibel (dB) signal for localized annunciation. Model
8715 is designed for use with addressable, analog
Models 8710, 8712 and 8713 series of detectors.
Typical application includes all areas that normally
would require localized, audible annunciation
such
as hotel, motel, apartment, condominium, and
dormitory rooms.
Specifications
The Model 8715 audible-base detector consists of a
standard, Model X1-series base
combined with
supportive circuitry for Model X1-series detectors and
an audible device. All field wiring terminates at two
(2) of the four (4)-position terminal blocks located on
the back of the control panel. Model 8715 can be
used with Models MPC-6000 and MPC-7000 fire
alarm control panels.
Several different configurations can provide audible-
signal circuit power to Model 8715.
(See the Typical Installation / Wiring Diagram included with
the unit).
When the device is in quiescent condition, (no
alarms), the polarity of the power to all Model 8715
bases is in Normal state, resulting in zero current flow
to each base.
When an Alarm condition is reported to the control
panel, power to all Model 8715 audible bases
reverses polarity, and there is no audible sound. The
control panel may then selectively command Model
8715
under programmed control to become
audible.
A
ll Model 8715 audible bases are capable of sounding
simultaneously
individually or in any combination,
depending upon the system program and the fire
alarm control panel.
Specifications (continued)
Model 8715 is UL 464 Listed, and reaches an audible
sound output of 85 dBs at 10 feet. The installation of a
jumper wire between Terminals 3 and 4 of Model 8715
changes the tone output from Steady to Temporal.
The smoke detectors used with Model 8715 are
subject to the maximum 30 ft. center spacing (900 sq.
ft.) as referenced in the National Fire Protection
Association (NFPA) Standard 72. However, this
spacing is based on ideal conditions:
smooth ceiling
no air movement
no physical obstructions between the
fire source and the detector
The aforementioned spacing conditions should be
used as a guide for detector-installation layout. Do not
mount detectors in areas close to heating, ventilating
or air-conditioning outlets.
Exposed joists or beamed ceilings may also effect safe
spacing limitations for detectors. Therefore, it is
mandatory to follow NFPA-72 guidelines in regards to
establishing locations and spacing for Model 8715
smoke-detector accessories.
Application Data
Model 8715 is a smoke-detector accessory that
combines detector-base and audible-device functions.
Model 8715 meets audibility requirements for smoke
alarms, as specified in
UL 268, single and multiple-
station smoke alarms.
When used in conjunction with listed, compatible
equipment, Model 8715 may be used (in lieu of
single / multiple-station smoke alarms) to achieve
enhanced system-level functionality.
Model 8715 detectors are only compatible with the
Model X1-series addressable detectors.
