Product Overview Advantages for OSID detection
Open-Area Smoke Imaging Detection (OSID) from
Siemens
Fire Safety is the latest in projected beam /
smoke detection. Basically, OSID is used to replace
the traditional transmitter, receiver (or any
transmitter / receiver combination) and reflector in a
one-for-one arrangement. The most common
application consists of one (1) imager and one (1)
emitter. NFPA 72 rules for beam-detector spacing
also apply to OSID usage.
The OSID series of detectors measures the level of
smoke entering beams of light, projected over an area
of protection. Each OSID imager can detect up to six
(6) emitters, providing a wide coverage area.
Additionally, the OSID series of detectors, through its
use of advanced, dual-wavelength projected beams
and optical-imaging technology, provides a low-cost,
reliable and easy-to-install solution that overcomes
typical beam-detection issues, such as false alarm
incidents and alignment difficulties.
As mentioned, two (2) innovations in smoke
detection technology have been developed for the
OSID series of detectors: dual-wavelength particle
detection and optical imaging.
For dual-wavelength particle detection, the beam
projected from each emitter contains a distinctive
sequence of ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (
IR) pulses
that synchronize with the respective imager, thus
enabling the rejection of any unwanted light sources.
Moreover, the dual-wavelength process allows
each OSID detector to decipher particle sizes, via
the use of two (2) wavelengths of light to detect
particles. The shorter UV wavelength interacts
strongly with small and large particles, while the
longer
IR wavelength is affected only by larger
particles.
