Multiple Air Handling Units with PICV direct control
A study was conducted in a high rise to show the impact that PICVs have on AHU systems. It was also conducted on
one of the lower level floor’s plant room which housed a North an South AHU.
The study was conducted in early spring for a 4 week period where PICV and globe valves were subbed out after two
weeks in both the North and South sides of the building. There was a significant impact in swapping out a globe valve
with a PICV has on the distribution system, particularly the effects on the pumps.
