Chiller / Boiler Examples
Fixed Speed Chiller – Plant Room with PICV control
This is a chilled water application utilizing pressure
independent control valves to modulate flow from the chiller
pumping station through the chillers. Note: the need for a
valve in this case is a differential pressure regulator valve in
the bypass line to ensure minimum flow requirements to the
three chillers.
In both examples, having a pumping station/skid that serves multiple production equipment is an option. It’s common to
use balancing valves in each production equipment leg to properly proportion the flows through each chiller or boiler to
ensure some level of minimum flow the equipment needs to operate. A modulating valve could be used to better control
the flow through the equipment.
A PICV can stand in for the control valve and balance valve to accomplish the same task in one unit with good authority.
It is also possible to cap the maximum flow through the production equipment as well with the flow limited on the PICV.
Condensing Boiler – Plant room with PICV control
This is a condensing boiler application utilizing pressure
independent control valves to modulate the flow through
the condensing boilers.
Siemens flanged PICV up to 6” can also be utilized in mechanical/plant room applications.
