The biomass heating plant is part of the EMAS certification (Eco Management and Audit
Scheme), also known as the EU eco-audit. Under the EMAS certification, the direct and indirect
environmental impact of the Nürburgring is recorded and offset by mandatory environmental
protection measures. The environmental management system, which has existed since the early
1990s, continues to be a groundbreaking innovation for racetracks.
