Smoke detector installation

The mounting of the detector subject to tunnel design is shown in Fig. 17. Where

e or exhaust ducts are installed. It is NOT advisable to install detectors within

the duct due to; If the ventilation (fan) is switched off then smoke will not be drawn

in to the duct to allow detection of any smoke particles.

With the installation type’s principle, two variants can be used: ring (class A) or star

(class B) wiring. To optimize the cost factor is star wiring for the Profibus installa-

tion preferred. For ring connection fiber optic cables are used.

When installed below ceiling the smoke detector is usually placed 50cm offset (or

according the local regulations) from the tunnel center line, inclusive of mounting

brackets and fall protection. This mounting method allows maintenance on the

smoke detector when a traffic lane is closed.
