CDT (Constant Discharge Technology) system is a one-of-the-kind inno-
vation introduced by Siemens. The CDT valve designed and patented by Siemens,
allows a constant and controlled pressure discharge of the inert gas. The constant
pressure limited to 60 bar ensures that the gas is discharged at a constant rate
during the entire flow time, eliminating pressure peaks in the room at the beginning
of the extinguishing process and minimizing potential damage to assets.

Controlled gas discharge allows a reduction of overpressure flaps up to 70%, a key
aspect to be contemplated in tunnels, where discharging overpressure to the out-
side might be complex or costly. Gas discharge limited to a maximum of approxi-
mately 65 bar also allows manifolds and piping to be designed on a lower pressure
category, and pressure restrictors after the manifold are no longer necessary. This
improves the cost of piping installation significantly.

is available in 300 bar storage cylinder pressure, which allows
excellent design flexibility and complex engineering lay-outs, for example allowing
distances up to 100 m between cylinder battery and protected room or big multi-
sector systems, where a singly cylinder battery would protect several fire risks. It
also guarantees a minimum nozzle pressure of 10 bar, assuring an ideal mixture
between extinguishing agent and atmospheric air and therefore to a fast and reli-
able extinguishing.
For all the above mentioned reasons, Sinorix

is a non regulated technology that offers the same extinguishing effi-
ciency as the controlled gas discharge mentioned above, is also based on pure ni-
trogen and represents an excellent alternative solution for control rooms in tunnels.

4.4.4.2 Extinguishing systems based on water combined agent
For the fire protection concept of thermal risks like in transformer and generator
rooms, Siemens recommends the use of water combined solutions. The combina-
tion of Nitrogen and water mist efficiently puts the fire out avoiding re-ignition.
Nitrogen reduces the oxygen in the room, providing reliable and fast extinguishing
of the fire and water mist reduces the ambient temperature in the protected zone,
bringing effective prevention of re-ignition.
