Siemens command and control at
the heart of Palm Islands’ security
Reliable protection with the Siveillance Vantage security solution
The project
In any luxury development a comprehen-
sive security solution is fundamental. For
the Palm Island this was certainly a focus.
Palm Jumeirah, the first of the three
islands to be completed, needed to
secure the entire island: the “trunk”, the
17 “fronds” and a surrounding crescent
island that forms a 12 kilometer long
breakwater.
The challenge for this project was not
only the area that needed to be secured
but also the integration of various security
sub-systems into a single platform.
The Palm Jumeirah Island in
Dubai, so named because of the
five kilometer long “palm trunk”
each flanked by 17 “palm fronds”
extending from the trunk into the
Arabian Gulf sea, covers some
50 square kilometers and is the
largest group of man-made
islands ever created.
The requirements
The main challenge was a security solution
that covers all of the Palm Jumeirah’s and
the Palm Atlantis Hotel’s and Resort’s facili-
ties, access control, transportation systems
including the monorail, marinas as well as
restaurants and shops.
Both had different security requirements
which should all be handled on a single
platform.
Not only access control for a specific
residential zone was needed but also an
integrated traffic management system
which has the ability to automatically
detect incidents.
Due to the wide water environment a
marine surveillance system with automatic
thermal cameras protecting the huge sur-
rounding was needed to be installed.
