Using your Compass USB Modem

Watcherorotherconnectionmanagementsoftware,depending
onyourcarrier.
Note: 3G Watcher is also compatible with earlier Sierra Wireless
modems such as the AirCard 88xU USB modem, AirCard 88xE
ExpressCard modem, and the AirCard 88x PC card modem.
3GWatcherenablesyouto:
• Initiatedataconnections
• Determinesignalstrength,roamingstatus,GPRS,EDGE,
UMTS,orHSDPA/HSUPAavailability,andothernetwork
connectionparameters
• MonitorthestatusoftheCompassUSBmodemandGSM
service
• SendandreceiveSMSmessages
• EnableordisableSIMsecuritythatpreventsothersfrom
using
yourSIMcardifitislostorstolen
• Setoptionsrelatedtonotificationsandthe3GWatcher
window
• Createormodifyanaccountprofile
Youdonotneedtorun3GWatcherwhenyouuse the
CompassUSBmodem,but3GWatcherdoesprovideuseful
statusinformation.
Launching 3G Watcher
Unlessthisfeaturehasbeendisabled,3GWatcherlaunches
automaticallyanytimeyouinserttheCompassUSBmodem.
Youcanalsolaunch3GWatcherby:
• Double‐clickingthedesktopshortcut ,or
• Selecting
Start > Programs > Sierra Wireless > 3G Watcher >
3G Watcher
Dependingonhowyourprofileisconfigured,yourbrowser,
VPN,orotherprogrammaylaunchautomaticallyanytimeyou
launch3GWatcher.
