Turning the radio on and off
Thisoptionallowsyoutoconserveyourcomputer’sbatteryby
turningofftheCompassUSBmodem’sradiotransmitter/
receiverwhenyouarenotusingit.
Toturnofftheradio:
1. Select
Tools > Turn Radio Off.
Whentheradioisturnedoff,themenuoptionswitchesto
Turn
Radio On
andthemessage“Radio is off”isdisplayedinthe3G
Watcherwindow.
Toturnontheradio:
1. Select
Tools > Turn Radio On.
Frequency band and network selection
3GWatcherhastwooptionsthataffectyourabilitytoobtain
GPRS,EDGE,UMTS,orHSDPA/HSUPAservice:
• Thefrequencybandyouwanttouse
• Thenetworkyouwanttouse,ifyouarewithinthe
coverageareaofmorethanonenetwork
Frequency band selection
EveryGSM networkoperatesononesetoffrequency
bands.
TheCompassUSBmodemisdesignedtochangefrequency
bandsautomaticallytoobtainnetworkservice.Youcanalso
changefrequencybandsmanuallyfromthe
Networktabofthe
User Optionswindow(Tools > Options > Network).
Note: Unless your service provider specifies otherwise, it is recom-
mended that you use the Automatic setting.
Network selection
Thisoptionissetinthe
NetworkpaneoftheUserOptions
window(
Tools > Options > Network > Network Selection Mode).
Dependingonyourlocation,youmaybewithinthecoverage
areaofseveralnetworks.Yourabilitytoobtainserviceoneach
networkdependsonyouraccount.
Youroptionsfornetworkselectionare:

Automatic—TheCompassUSBmodemautomatically
selectsanetworkbasedonyouraccountandnetwork
availability.
•
Manual—TheCompassUSBmodemscanstheareaand
displaysalistofdetectedGSMnetworks.
