Operator Safety This machine is capable to amputating hands and feet and throwing objects. Read these safety rules and follow them closely. Failure to obey these rules could result in loss of control of unit, severe personal injury or death to you, or bystanders, or damage to property or equipment. The triangle in text signifies important cautions or warnings which must be followed. GENERAL WARNING WARNING ALWAYS shut off the tractor.
Operator Safety TRAINING 1. Read, understand, and follow all instructions on the machine and in the manuals before operating this unit. Be thoroughly familiar with the controls and the proper use of the equipment. Know how to stop the unit and disengage the controls quickly. 2. Never allow children to operate the equipment. Never allow adults to operate the equipment without proper instruction. 3. Keep the area of operation clear of all persons, particularly small children and pets. 4.
Operator Safety CHILDREN Tragic accidents can occur if the operator is not alert to the presence of children. Children are often attracted to the unit and the operating activity. Never assume that children will remain where you last saw them. 1. Keep children out of the area and under the watchful care of another responsible adult. 2. Be alert and turn unit off if children enter the area. 3. Never allow children to operate the unit. 4.
Assembly WARNING Before beginning any service work turn off the PTO, set the parking brake, turn off the ignition, and disconnect the spark plug wire(s). Note: Recommended Accessories Rear wheel weights and front counterweights are recommended. For operation on slopes greater than 15% (8.5°), front counterweights are required. Never operate on slopes greater than 17.6% (10°). Modify Manual Lift Linkage (Manual Lift Models Only) 1. Place the lift lever in the attachment-raised (back) position.
Assembly 5. Install the pivot capscrew (AE, Figure 4) securing the new lift link (AI) to the lift lock (AF) and lift lever (AG). 6. Place the lift lever in the attachment-lowered (forward) position. 7. Check the front lock plate capscrew (AH). If the capscrew is grade 5, replace with the grade 8 capscrew (A) provided. See Figure 4 to identify correct capscrew. 8. Place the lift lever in the attachment-raised (back) position. 9.
Assembly Hitch Installation (All Models) 1. Install the hitch support (AL, Figure 6) on the inside of the drawbar support (on tractor) using four capscrews (B) and four nuts (G) as shown. G 3. Secure the hitch assembly bracket (AM, Figure 8) to the outside of the drawbar support and hitch support using two capscrews (D) and two nuts (I). FULLY TIGHTEN HARDWARE IN STEP 2. I B D AM Figure 8 4. Install the hitch assembly (AN, Figure 9) on both sides of the drawbar support.
Assembly Pulley Assembly Installation (All Models) 3. Mount the front idler pulley assembly (AQ) onto the left side of the lift shaft (AR) as shown. 1. Install the rear idler pulley (AO, Figure 10) in the front hole on the left side of the hitch assembly. Secure using capscrew (E), two washers (O), step spacer (P), and nut (J) as shown. NOTE: The front idler pulley assembly (AQ, Figure 12) should be pre-assembled with loose hardware. The hardware will be tightened after belt installation.
Assembly Lift Rod Installation (All Models) 1. Verify that the threaded rod assembly (AU) was assmbled as shown in Figure 14 . 4. Entering from the right side of the tractor, insert lift rod assembly (AW) above rear axle and between the right rear tire and frame as shown in Figure 16. Slide the lift rod assembly (AW) onto the right side of the lift shaft (AX) through the lift lever assembly (AY) as shown. 5.
Assembly 7. (Manual Lift Models Only) Install the crank bracket (BA, Figure 18) to the hitch assembly (AN) using carriage bolt (R) and nut (G) as shown. DO NOT FULLY TIGHTEN HARDWARE. 12. (Manual Lift Models Only) Install spring anchor bracket (BE, Figure 20) into hole (*) in frame using capscrew (F) and nut (I) as shown. DO NOT FULLY TIGHTEN HARDWARE. 8. (Manual Lift Models Only) Insert the hole-end of crank assembly (BB) through the slot (*) in the crank bracket (BA) as shown.
Assembly 14. (Manual Lift Models Only) Seat nut (K, Figure 22) into spring anchor bracket (BE) by threading the nut (K) up the threaded rod and entering through the front of the spring anchor bracket. 4. Pivot tiller U-frame assembly (BI, Figure 24) into hitch assembly bracket (AM) as shown. Secure with two pins (V) and two safety clips (Y). Assembly Belt Cover Installation (All Models) 1. Secure the front of belt cover (BO, Figure 30) to the post above the triple pulley assembly using pivot rod (BP) and safety clip (Y). Y BP Figure 30 No R e t fo pro r du cti on BO Note: Both rear belt guard supports (BQ, Figure 29) should be in a vertical position. 2. Secure the back of the belt cover (BO, Figure 31) to the rear belt guard supports (BQ) using the hardware that is pre-assembled to the cover as shown. See note below for hardware order.
Operation Note: Refer to the Tractor Operator’s Manual for important information concerning safely operating your tractor. CAUTION After striking a foreign object, stop the engine, disengage the PTO, and remove the key. Inspect the tiller for damage before starting. The tiller may propel the tractor forward when first lowered into hard ground especially if tiller depth is set too deep or tractor ground speed is too fast. Checks Before Starting 1. Make sure all covers and guards are in place.
Storage / Maintenance Daily Storage Long Term Storage Note: Refer to the tractor Operator’s Manual for important information concerning safely storing your tractor. 1. Use water pressure or brush to thoroughly clean the unit. 1. Allow tractor engine to cool before storing in any enclosure. 2. Paint, or lightly coat with oil, any area where paint has been worn or chipped away. 2. After jobs are completed, hose or brush down the unit to remove dirt and debris. 4. Store in a dry place. 3.
Removal & Normal Installation Removal 1. Remove the belt from the spring-loaded tiller idler pulley (BN, Figure 32). 5. Manual Lift Models: Raise the tiller. Remove the spring and threaded rod assembly (BF, Figure 34) from the spring anchor bracket (BE). Lower the tiller. 2. Remove the belt from the PTO pulley (BL). BF 3. Remove the front idler pulley assembly (AQ). BE BN AQ BL Figure 34 Figure 32 6.

Manual Lift Models: Remove the pin (AC, Figure 38) securing lift link (AI) from bottom hole of lift cam. Reinstall the pin through the top hole in the lift cam and through the end hole in the lift link (AI). AC AW AI No R e t fo pro r du cti on Figure 36 9.
Troubleshooting, Adjustments, & Service Troubleshooting WARNING Troubleshooting procedures are provided in the following chart. To use these procedures, first locate the problem description that best describes the trouble that you have encountered. Check the possible causes one at a time in the order that they are listed. Correct any problems that are found and try to operate the rotary tiller again to see if you have eliminated the trouble. Symptom Rotary tiller tines do not rotate.
Troubleshooting, Adjustments, & Service Lift Height Adjustment Initial Adjustment 1. Park the unit on level ground. 2. Manual Lift Models: Turn the crank assembly (BB, Figure 40) until the length between the anchor bracket (BE) and end of the of threaded rod (BC) measures 5.5” - 6.5”. Note: Lubricate the crank and threaded rod with oil. BB BE BC 5" Figure 42 Working Adjustment Figure 40 3. Raise the tiller. 4.
