3.2.1Commandmode
TheCLIisdividedintomanydifferentmodes.Thecommandsavailabletoyouatany
giventimedependonthemodethatyouarecurrentlyin.Ente ringaquestionmark
(?)attheCLIpromptallowsyoutoobtainalistofcommandsavailableforeach
commandmode.
WhenyoulogintotheCLI,youareinusermode.Usermode containsonlyalimited
subsetofcommands.
To have access to all commands, you must enter enable mode normally by using a
password.Fromenablemode,youcanissueanyenablemodecommand.
Youcanenterglobalconfigurationmode
byenteringconfigureterminalcommand.
Configurationmodesallowyoutomakechangestotherunningconfiguration.Ifyou
later save the running configuration to the startup configuration, these changed
commandsarestoredwhenthesoftwareisrebooted.Toenterspecificconfiguration
modes,youmuststartatglobalconfigurationmode.Fromglobal
configurationmode,
youcanenterinterfaceconfigurationmodeandavarietyofothermodes.
