9.8.36 Fuel Level Indicator Troubleshooting

Fuel Level
Indicator
MA7620
Verify fuel quantity
level in tank.
Fuel level indicator reads
EMPTY while operating.
Fill fuel tank.
Verify battery voltage on
wire 17 (GRY). Refer to
pages 9.38, 9.39, 9.40, 9.41,
9.50, 9.51, 9.62, 9.63, 9.64,
9.65,9.74, 9.75, 9.84, 9.85,
9.86, 9.87, 9.102 or 9.103.
Disconnect fuel level sender
and check resistance at
fuel level sender.
Replace switch in tank.
Check ground wire 2A (BLK) wire for continuity:
Full = 31 ohms
One-Half = 101 ohms
Empty = 255 ohms
Refer to pages 9.38, 9.39, 9.40, 9.41, 9.50, 9.51,
9.62, 9.63, 9.64, 9.65,9.74, 9.75, 9.84, 9.85, 9.86,
9.87, 9.102 or 9.103.
Replace instrument cluster.
If OK
Before troubleshooting any
electrical circuit, ALWAYS
begin by checking the
following:
1. Fuses.
2. Battery for proper charge.
3. All connections relating to
circuit are clean and tight.
4. Check instrument cluster
bulb for proper function.
