This user’s manual This user’s manual is an integral part of the appliance and must be kept intact and available to the user throughout its life cycle. Insert the tank or fill it with water.
Use USE (Fig. E-F-G-H) • Lift the tank cover (4) and pour fresh water in the tank (5) being sure not to exceed the indicated ‘Max’ level. Replace the water tank cover when full (4). • Lift the coffee bean container lid (2) and introduce the coffee beans into the container (3). • Check that the drip tray (14) is correctly positioned. • Press the button (9) , the machine starts the heating phase and the keys light up flashing in sequence.
Steam delivery • Enter the “Orange” dispensing program. • Make sure that the tray (14) is correctly assembled. • Press the button (19) which starts flashing. Wait until the button is steady lit and the buzzer sounds to indicate that the correct steam dispensing temperature has been reached (19) . • Place a container under the steam wand (30) with about 100 grams of milk for each cappuccino you want to prepare.
Use / Cleaning and maintenance Turning off the machine • Check that the drip tray (14) is positioned correctly. • If there is no water, the machine remains in the rinse position until the tank is filled. • Press the button (9) , the keys (16), (17), (18), (19) light up flashing in sequence and the machine, if it has dispensed at least one coffee, performs a self-cleaning cycle. At the end of the self-cleaning cycle, the machine switches off. MACHINE SETTINGS (Fig.
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE (Fig. C-E-G-H-I-L) Incorrect use Risk of damage to surfaces. • Do not use steam jets to clean the coffee machine. • Do not use cleaning products containing chlorine, ammonia or bleach on parts with metal surface finishes (e.g. anodised, nickel- or chrome-plated). • Do not use abrasive or corrosive detergents (e.g. powder products, stain removers and metallic scourers). • Do not use rough or abrasive materials or sharp metal scrapers.
Cleaning and maintenance C l e a n i n g t h e c o f f e e g ro u n d s container (12) and internal tray (13) Always empty the coffee grounds container with the appliance switched on. This is the only way of resetting the coffee grounds counter. The counter resets at least 15 seconds after opening the various components and LED 23 flashes. • Remove the tray (14). • Remove the grounds container (12) with its tray (13) by pulling it outwards. • Empty the coffee grounds from the container (12).
Coffee powder residue can be found in the brewing group compartment. We recommend thorough cleaning whenever cleaning the brewing group. Use the supplied brush to remove any residue from the brewing group compartment. Dry all components and internal parts using a dry cloth before closing the side door. Steam wand cleaning (30) • Wait for the steam wand (30) to cool before operating. • Remove the lower part (34) of the steam wand by turning it anticlockwise to release it then pull it downwards.
Cleaning and maintenance Personal injury hazard. • The descaler contains acids that can irritate the skin and eyes. • Follow the manufacturer's instructions and safety warnings on the packet scrupulously in the event of contact with skin or eyes. • Use descaler products recommended by Smeg to prevent damage to the coffee machine. Any other servicing should be performed by an authorized service representative.

Make sure the tank is correctly assembled or fill with water, or rinse to remove any scale residues. No coffee alarm (LED 22 on).
Problem Possible causes Tank removed during dispensing or water under the minimum threshold. The machine stops when dispensing. Alarm 21 not on but water missing. Incorrect water reading in the tank due to lime scale inside the tank. Thoroughly clean and reassemble the tank. Run a descaling cycle if needed. Water erroneously poured in the tank gap. Remove the tank and thoroughly dry its compartment. Cups were not pre-heated.
Possible causes Coffee too finely ground. Turn the knob clockwise to loosen the coffee grinders. Note: some blends require rougher grinding than others. To avoid machine damages, adjust grinding being sure to rotate the knob when the grinders are running. Dispenser clogged. Manually clean as indicated in paragraph “Cleaning and Maintenance”. The cycle was not completed. Make sure the cycle and subsequent rinse are completed. After the first cycle, the machine requires a rinse cycle.
Problem Possible causes Hydraulic circuit error. All buttons flash simultaneously. The machine does not dispense steam. Insufficient frothing.
