Page Layout

The first time you turn on your Memory Typewriter, a preset format is

activated. It is set for general typing purposes. These settings remain

active until you change them.

Margins and Tabs

Margins and tabs for both Type Mode and Mem Mode are set in Type

Mode, but can be changed in Mem Mode when text is recalled for

editing. Margins and tabs are set using the typing scale which appears

on the display in Type Mode. A blinking cursor indicates the typing

position. The letter “L” indicates your left margin setting. The letter “R”

indicates your right margin setting.

NOTE: In

Mem

Mode, the margins and tabs used when the text

is created will be saved with the text and recalled with it,

even if they have been changed.

Margins

In Type Mode, to signal that you are near the right margin, the

typewriter will beep 5 spaces before the margin. In Mem Mode, the text

will wrap automatically when you print.

Margins are preset depending on the pitch setting, which is the number

of characters per inch. They are:

10 Pitch 12 Pitch 15 Pitch

(Pica) (Elite) (Micro)

Left Margin 12 14 18

Right Margin 72 86 108

New margin settings remain until changed again.

1. Move the Mode Selector to Type. A typing scale appears on

the display.

2. Move the cursor using the Spacebar or Back Space to the desired left

margin setting on the scale.

3. Press Margin.

4. Move the cursor using the Spacebar to the desired right margin

setting on the typing scale.

5. Press Code + Margin. A beep confirms each new margin setting.

6. You can change to Mem Mode, if desired.

Tabs Up to eight tabs may be set. Tabs may be set outside of margins. The tab settings remain until changed again. (If Auto Return is activated, tabs cannot be set beyond the right margin. Special Tabs Special tabs can be set only in Type Mode. You can easily set three special types of tabs. Using Special Tabs Decimal Tabs 1. Tab Tab C Press Tab/Tab C to move the cursor to the Decimal Tab location. The display prompts: Decimal Tab xx Type Numbers Before Decimal Point (xx = current tab position) 2. Type the numbers preceding the decimal point. The numbers appear on the display. Use Correct to correct errors. To cancel a Decimal Tab, press Return. 3. Type the decimal point. The number prints to this point in Type Mode. 4. Type the numbers following the decimal point.

Changing Tabs You can change tabs already set for one format to another. You can change tab settings in Type Mode or change them for a specific document in Mem Mode when you recall that document. Changing a Regular Tab to a Special Tab 1. Select Type Mode. 2. Position print hammer on the Regular Tab to be changed. 3. Press Code + Spec. Tab (O). The tab will change to a Decimal Tab ( DT ), and the unit will beep once. 4. Press Code + Spec.

Format Settings End of Page Warning, Pitch, Line Spacing, and Impression Control are all set using the display and the setting indicators printed above it. Format settings are stored until you change them. You can set formats in both Type Mode and Mem Mode using the instructions below. Setting the End of Page Warning An End of Page Setting alerts you when you are approximately one inch from the bottom of the page in Type Mode by beeping 3 times.

Selecting Pitch Your typewriter has been designed with triple pitch capabilities: 10 characters per inch (Pica), 12 characters per inch (Elite), and 15 characters per inch (Micro). Since the number of characters per inch varies depending on pitch, margin settings also vary. Setting Impression Control Impression Control adjusts the force used by the print hammer to strike the typing paper. You can select light, medium or heavy impression. It is recommended that you select heavy impression when typing carbons or using a Script or Orator printwheel. For normal typing, use medium impression. 1.
