Installation Instructions

6”x6” & 12”x12” Tile Size
PREP - Suboor Preparation
SUBFLOOR must be clean, smooth, dry, hard, at and structurally sound. It must meet thickness, joist
specication, tolerance specication and deection specication, according to the Tile Council of North
America (TCNA) Guidelines for tile installation.
• THICKNESS: minimum of 5/8” thick
JOIST SPECIFICATIONS: 16” on center
•TOLERANCE (Flat & Smooth) SPECIFICATIONS: Suboor for tiles with at least one edge less than 15” in
length must be within a tolerance of 1/4” in 10’ and 1/16” in 1’ as dened by the TCNA Handbook for
Ceramic Tile Installation. For tiles with at least one edge 15” or greater in length, maximum allowable
variation is 1/8” in 10’ from the required plane, with no more than 1/16” variation in 24” when measured
from the high points in the surface. Identify high and low spots that are out of tolerance by laying a 6’-8’
straight edge across your suboor. High spots should be removed by planing, sanding or grinding. Low
spots should be lled. When leveling the suboor, use only portland-based llers; never use gypsum-
based llers as they support mold growth.
