Chapter 4: Connecting the AC and the Strings
to the Safety Switch
TheSafetySwitchdisconnectsallungroundedDCconductorsofthecircuittowhichitisconnectedin
compliancewiththeNationalElectricCode,andspecificallyNEC690.35,whichaddressesungroundedPV
arrays.TheSafetySwitchisratedtothemaximumoperatingconditionsoftheinverter.
ThefollowingfigureillustratestheSafetySwitch.

Grid Connection Guidelines
l Insinglephaseinvertersconnectedtocornergroundedgrids,connecttheL2terminaltothe
groundedconductor.Whenconnectingtoothergrids,L1andL2areinterchangeable.
l Theconduits,hubsandfittingsmustbesuitedforfieldwiringsystems.
l ThehubsandotherfittingsmustcomplywithUL514B.
l UsetheconduitandwiringappropriatefortheinstallationlocationpertheNEC.Outdoor
installationsmustusecomponentsthatareratedNEMA3Rorhigher.

1. Removethespring-clampterminalinstructionsfrominsidetheswitch.
2. Strip0516''(8mm)oftheACwireinsulation.
3. InserttheACconduitintotheAC-sidedrillguidethatwasopened.
