By sliding the HOLD switch in the direction of the arrow , all operation buttons are disabled. If you slide the HOLD switch in the opposite position, the HOLD function is released. Prepairing the Player Prepairing the Player Home Menu The player’s battery is recharged while the player is connected to a running computer. When you connect the player to your computer, use the supplied USB cable. When the remaining battery indication in the upper right corner of the display , charging is completed (charging time is approx. 3 hours).
Prepairing the Player Home Menu Index If you charge the player when it has not been used for a long period, your computer may not recognize the player or nothing may appear on the display. Charge the player for about 5 minutes, and it starts operating properly. Charge the battery in an ambient temperature of between 5 ºC to 35 ºC (41 ºF to 95 ºF). If you try to charge the battery in an ambient temperature outside this range, the icon may appear, and charging cannot be performed.

You can transfer music to the player in the following three ways. The player does not use SonicStage software (SonicStage software, developed by Sony, manages music on a computer or transfers music to other types of players). For this player, you can transfer music in the above three ways, not using SonicStage.

Transferring Music Windows Media Player 11 begins to import the CD. The imported songs are indicated as [Ripped to library]. Wait until all songs have been imported. Note Imported songs are limited to private use only. Use of a song beyond this limitation requires permission of the copyright holders. Index Imported songs are stored in the [My Music] folder (Windows XP) or [Music] folder (Windows Vista) of the computer. Click the [Library] tab of the Windows Media Player 11 window to find them.

Playing Music By activating the [DSEE(Sound Enhance)]*1 feature, you can hear a rich and natural sound almost exactly like the original source. [Settings] [Music Settings] [DSEE(Sound Enhance)] desired DSEE (Sound Enhance) type. Description [On] Activates the [DSEE(Sound Enhance)]*1 function, and plays back naturally extended sound that is close to the original sound. [Off] Disables the [DSEE(Sound Enhance)] function and plays back normal sound.
Playing Music You can reduce the volume level between songs. With this setting, when listening to album songs in the shuffle play mode, the volume level between songs is moderated to minimize the difference in their recording levels. [Settings] [Music Settings] [Dynamic Normalizer] desired Dynamic Normalizer type. Description [On] Minimizes the difference in volume level between songs. [Off] Plays back songs at their original transferred volume level.
Using the Language Learning Function Using the Language Learning Function Hint Activating the language learning function From the Home menu, select [Settings] [Music Settings] [Language Learning Mode] [On]. Type Description [On] Activates the [Language Learning Mode], allowing you to use the [Quick Replay] function and the A-B repeat function. [Off] Disables the [Language Learning Mode].
Using the Language Learning Function You can rewind about 3 seconds to listen to audio again. Table of Contents Rewinding slightly [Quick Replay] Press the button during playback on the music playback screen. When point A (starting point of A-B repeat) is set, if you press the button within 3 seconds of point A, playback returns to point A. You can play back a specified section of audio repeatedly. Press the button to specify the starting point of A-B repeat.
Using the Language Learning Function You can adjust the playback speed between half and double normal speed by using the DPC (Digital Pitch Control) function. The audio is played back in natural tones by means of the digital processing function. You can adjust the playback speed regardless of the [Language Learning Mode] setting. The [DPC (Speed Control)] setting also affects the playback speed of an audio podcast ( p. 73).

[4:3] Adjusts the video image size for normal screen (4:3). (Default setting) Switching the television signal format [NTSC/PAL settings] You can select the player’s video output signal.

Home Menu Deleting currently playing video Table of Contents Deleting Videos From the playback screen of the video, press the OPTION/PWR OFF Select [Delete Video] [Yes]. The video is deleted. Deleting videos by selecting from a list From the video list screen, press the OPTION/PWR OFF button to bring up the option menu. Select [Delete Video] video you intend to delete [Yes]. The video is deleted.

When the video is output to a television, it is enlarged in accordance with the [TV Output Size] setting ( p. 64, 65).
Watching Videos [Auto] The video image is resized to fit the display area, maintaining the original aspect ratio (Default setting). When a 16:9 (wide size) video image is displayed on a 4:3 television, black bands appear on the top and bottom of the screen. When a 4:3 video image is displayed on a wide television, black bands appear on the right and left of the screen.
Watching Videos [Full] The video image is resized to fill the available display area, maintaining the aspect ratio. When a 16:9 (wide size) video image is displayed on a 4:3 television, the right/left sides of the image are trimmed to fit. When a 4:3 video image is displayed on a wide television, the top and bottom of the video image are trimmed to fit.
Watching Videos You can set to turn off the video screen during the player is on hold, allowing you to enjoy the sound of videos only. Setting this option to [No] saves battery power for longer battery life. [Settings] [Video Settings] [On-Hold Display] desired On-Hold Display setting type. Description [Yes] When the player is on hold, the buttons are deactivated, but videos will be played back normally.

A “podcast” is a group of audio or video files that is published on the Internet. The files, called episodes, can be downloaded to a computer automatically by using RSS, to play back.

Troubleshooting FM broadcasts are affected by interference. A device emitting radio signals, such as a mobile phone, is being used near the player. When an optional peripheral device is connected to the WM-PORT jack and the headphones cannot be connected, FM broadcast reception is unavailable.
