Fall 2005 Product Guide

The Bigger The Imager, The Better The Image
Sony’s DSC-R1 incorporates a professional-grade APS-C class image sensor.
At 21.5 x 14.4 mm it’s literally twelve times the area of a typical sensor! So you get
superb sensitivity, reduced image noise and an amazing 10.3 megapixels of resolution.
Other cameras with APS-C class sensors must depend on an optical viewfinder for
framing. Thanks to Sony CMOS technology, the R1 is the world’s first APS-C class sensor
with the immediacy and accuracy of a Live Preview of the scene. You can see Live
Preview on either the LCD monitor or using the through-the-lens electronic viewfinder.
Take In The Wider View
Because the DSC-R1 needs no optical viewfinder, it also doesn’t need the bulky mirror
and pentaprism such viewfinders can require. As a result, Sony is free to integrate a
more compact lens that can capture a tremendous range in field of view. The Carl
Zeiss
®
Vario-Sonnar
®
5x zoom lens extends from an ultra-wide 24 mm all the way
to 120 mm (35mm equivalent). So you can get scenic and group photos beyond the
reach of most APS-class camera/lens combinations.
The Legendary Lenses Of Carl Zeiss

demands of digital shooting.
Shoot At The Speed Of Life
Life moves fast. If you’re not on your toes, the most memorable moments can pass
you by. That’s why every Sony camera incorporates the Real Imaging Processor
LSI.
That’s how Sony cameras typically start in less than one second. And shutter lag is
typically 0.009 second! (Times vary by camera.)
The APS-C class image
sensor of the DSC-R1
has a whopping 12 times
the area of the typical
1/2.5" sensor.
At 24 mm, the wide end of
the DSC-R1 lens enables you
to get dramatic scenic shots
and landscapes beyond the
reach of the typical 28 mm
wide end of an APS-class
camera/lens combination
(inset frame). Focal lengths
are 35mm equivalent. Sample
