What can I do to solve a problem? What can I do to solve a problem? General The power does not turn on. The system has entered standby mode. There is no sound. There is severe hum or noise. A clicking sound is heard when the system is turned on. USB Playback Playback does not start. Files cannot be played back. There is no sound during USB playback. There is noise, skipping, or distorted sound during USB playback. It takes a long time before playback starts. The USB device is not recognized.
BLUETOOTH device cannot be connected to the system during Speaker Add function. Karaoke There is no microphone sound. There is acoustic feedback. Reset System does not operate properly.

When you connect the system to an AC outlet using the AC power cord (mains lead), the speaker light illuminates automatically. 1 Hold down W.PARTY CHAIN/ LIGHT for more than 3 seconds while the demonstration is performed. The demonstration ends and the speaker light turns off. To activate the demonstration mode Hold down W.PARTY CHAIN/ LIGHT during the standby mode.

Using iPhone/iPod devices via a USB connection is not supported. Note When USB cable connection is necessary, use the USB cable supplied with the USB device.
Help Guide Home Audio System GTK-XB72 Pairing and connecting with BLUETOOTH devices When pairing with two or more BLUETOOTH devices, perform the following pairing procedure for each device. Before operating the system, be sure to do the following: Place the BLUETOOTH device within 1 m (3.2 ft) from the system. Stop playback on the BLUETOOTH device. Turn down the volume of the BLUETOOTH device and system to avoid any sudden loud sound output from the system.
3 Perform the pairing procedure on the BLUETOOTH device to detect the system. When a list of detected devices appears on the display of the BLUETOOTH device, select [GTK-XB72]. If a passkey* is required on the display of the BLUETOOTH device, enter [0000]. * 4 The passkey may also be called a “passcode,” “PIN code,” “PIN number” or “password.” Make the BLUETOOTH connection from the BLUETOOTH device.

Hint If the BLUETOOTH connection is active between the system and a mobile phone (smartphone/iPhone) via HFP/HSP, you can use the hands-free function while listening to music of the connected external audio device. If the system satisfies the following conditions for about 15 minutes, it turns off automatically and the BLUETOOTH connection is terminated. No operation on the system.

A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) Enables you to enjoy high-quality audio contents wirelessly.
If the communication condition is poor, the BLUETOOTH device may react incorrectly to the operations on the system. Depending on the BLUETOOTH device, it may be necessary to adjust the volume or set the audio output setting on the connected device. Noise or sound interruption may occur depending on the BLUETOOTH device connected with the system, the communication environment or the usage environment.

When the codec is switched to [SBC], the Audio IN indicator flashes once. When the codec is switched to [Auto], the Audio IN indicator flashes 3 times.

One activated system in the chain serves as the “Party Host” and shares music. Other systems become “Party Guests” and play the same music as that being played by the “Party Host.
A: First system (Party Host) B: Second system (Party Guest) C: Last system* (Party Guest) D: Continue the connection until the last system. * Connect the system which is not equipped with Wired Party Chain function at the last system, otherwise the chain will stop at that system. Be sure to select the AUDIO IN function on this last system. The last system is not connected to the first system.
Help Guide Home Audio System GTK-XB72 Enjoying music playback with multiple audio systems (Wired Party Chain function) You can enjoy music using the wired multiple audio systems. 1 Turn on all the systems. 2 Adjust the volume on each system. 3 Activate the Wired Party Chain function on the system to be used as the Party Host. Example: When using this system as the Party Host 1. Press FUNCTION/ PAIRING repeatedly to select the function you want.
Changing the volume level and sound effect on the Party Host will not affect the output on the Party Guests. You can select another system as the new Party Host only after the Wired Party Chain function has been activated on all the systems in the chain. If the selected system does not become the new Party Host after a few seconds, repeat step For details of operations on other systems, refer to the operating instructions for the systems.
Help Guide Home Audio System GTK-XB72 Enjoying wireless playback using multiple audio systems (Wireless Party Chain function) By connecting multiple devices compatible with the Wireless Party Chain function, you can liven up parties with loud volume. Compatible devices: SRS-XB21, SRS-XB31, SRS-XB41, SRS-XB20, SRS-XB30, SRS-XB40, MHC-V82D, MHC-V72D, MHC-V42D, MHCV02, GTK-XB72, GTK-XB60, GTK-XB90 Before operating the system, make sure that all systems to be connected within 1 m (3.2 ft) of the device.
Hint Connect the second system within 1 minute. After 1 minute or more, the system setting is canceled. 3. To connect additional systems, repeat steps – 1 to 2. Hint When connecting a third or more systems, connect each one within 30 seconds of connecting the previous system. After 30 seconds or more, the system cannot be connected. If you want to add another system after connecting (30 seconds or more), press and hold W.PARTY CHAIN/ LIGHT on the first system, then operate steps – 1 to 2.

To terminate only one system Press W.PARTY CHAIN on the Party Guest you want to leave.
Help Guide Home Audio System GTK-XB72 Listening to music wirelessly with two systems (Speaker Add function) To use this function, two GTK-XB72 systems are required.* By connecting two systems via BLUETOOTH wireless technology, you can enjoy music in a more powerful way. You can also select an audio output between double mode (in which the two systems play the same sound) and stereo mode (stereo sound).
6 Activate the pairing mode on the system [A], and then perform the BLUETOOTH connection with a BLUETOOTH device. For details on the pairing, see the following topics. Help Guide Home Audio System GTK-XB72 Switching between double mode and stereo mode (Speaker Add function) Using two systems, you can switch between the double mode, where the same sound is played back on both systems, and the stereo mode, where one system outputs the left channel sound and the other system outputs the right channel sound for stereo playback. 1 Press ADD on either of the systems to change the audio reproduction.
Double mode: The same sound is played back on both systems. Stereo mode (Left/Right): The left channel sound is played back on one system, and the right channel sound is played back on the other system. Stereo mode (Right/Left): Switches the channel of the two systems (left channel/right channel) and plays back.
Help Guide Home Audio System GTK-XB72 Terminating the Speaker Add function To terminate the Speaker Add function, follow the procedure below. 1 Press ADD on the system. The ADD indicator will be turned off. Hint You can also terminate the Speaker Add function by pressing FUNCTION on the system. Unless you terminate the function, the system will try to establish the last made connection next time you turn on the system.

Help Guide Home Audio System GTK-XB72 Listening to FM radio Before listening the FM radio, you need to extend the FM radio antenna on the system and tune in to an FM radio station to which you want to listen. 1 Extend the FM radio antenna on the system and adjust its length and angle for optimum reception. 2 Press FUNCTION/ 3 Press TUNING +/– repeatedly to tune in to a station to which you want to listen. PAIRING repeatedly until the TUNER indicator lights up.
If scanning does not stop, press TUNING +/– on the system to stop scanning. Then, perform manual tuning by following the steps above. Notes on handling the FM antenna When adjusting the length, hold the antenna by the thickest part and top, and extend/retract it slowly. When adjusting the direction, hold the antenna by the thickest part and rotate it. If you move the antenna by the top or apply strong force, it may break. Handle the antenna with care.

Hint To use this function, make sure “Sony | Music Center” app has been installed to your BLUETOOTH device. 1 Tap [Music Center] on your smartphone, iPhone, etc. to start up the application. 2 Tap [GTK-XB72]. 3 Tap [FM Tuner]. 4 Press TUNING +/- on the system or want to preset.
Each time you press TUNING +/–, the frequency of the FM tuner will be read out in English. It will not be read out when using “Sony | Music Center” for tuning in. 5 Tap at the top of the screen. 6 Tap the button at the right end of the preset number you want. If another station is already assigned to the selected preset number, that station is replaced by the new one. To listen to the preset station Tap the Preset / button on “Sony | Music Center” to select the preset number you want.

Maximum communication range Maximum communication range may shorten under the following conditions. There is an obstacle such as a person, metal, or wall between the system and BLUETOOTH device. A wireless LAN device is in use near the system. A microwave oven is in use near the system.
