Symptom Cause/Solution
The linear PCM recorder
does not operate.
The batteries have been inserted with the +/– facing in the incorrect
direction. Reinsert them correctly (page 19).
The batteries have run out. Replace them with new ones (page 19).
The buttons are locked with the HOLD switch. Set the HOLD switch to the
“OFF” position (page 31).
The POWER switch is set to the “OFF” position. Set it to the “ON” position.
You cannot start
recording.
The INPUT switch is in the wrong position. Set it to the “MIC” (microphones)
position when using the built-in microphones or an external microphone to
input audio for recording. Set it to the “LINE” position when external
equipment is connected for recording (pages 35, 40, 42, 43).
If a recording starts and no playback sounds are heard, the recording
volume may be too low. Turn the REC LEVEL dial to adjust the volume.
You cannot record in folders managed under Music.
The memory is full, or the maximum number of files (199 files) have already
been recorded. You cannot record any more files. Select another folder
(page 27) or erase some of the files (page 58). Or store the files on the
hard disk of your computer (page 63), and then erase them from the
linear PCM recorder. You can also use a memory card with sufficient
capacity (page 24).
The write-protect switch of a memory card is set to the “LOCK” position.
Release the write-protect setting.
Check the “Plug In Power” setting of the menu if using an external
microphone.
Digital Synchronized
Recording cannot be
performed.
Digital Synchronized Recording cannot be performed if the connected
device outputs digital signals, even when playback is stopped.
The ACCESS indicator,
peak level lamps, or
REC / PAUSE
indicators do not light/
flash.
The “LED” item in the “Common Settings” menu is set to “OFF. Display the
menu and set it to “ON” (page 72).
You cannot erase a file.
The inserted memory card is write-protected. Release the write-protect
setting.
When you use a Windows computer, the file or the folder containing the file
is set to “Read-only” on the computer. Display the file or the folder using
Windows Explorer and remove the check for “Read-only” under “Properties.
When you use a Mac computer, the file or the folder containing the file is
set to “Locked” on the computer. Display the file or the folder on Mac Finder
and remove the check for “Locked” under “GetInfo” of “File.
The remaining battery power is insufficient. Replace the batteries with new
ones (page 19), or connect an AC adaptor (not supplied) to the linear
PCM recorder (page 21).
The file is protected. Reset the protection setting.
