Warning CAUTION To prevent fire or shock hazard, do not expose the player to rain or moisture. You can use this player on AC power source only. You cannot use it on batteries. When you use this player for the first time, or when you have not used it for a long time, leave it connected to AC power source for about one hour to charge the built-in backup battery for the clock, timer, preset radio stations, etc. You can use the player during charging.

Basic Operations Playing a CD 3 1,2 For hookup instructions, see pages 25 - 26. 1 PUSH OPEN/CLOSE Z Press 6PUSH OPEN/CLOSE down to open the CD compartment and place the CD on the CD compartment. With the label side up 2 PUSH OPEN/CLOSE Close the lid of the CD compartment. Z 3 NX Press ^ (( on the remote) (direct power-on). Display The player plays all the tracks once.

Listening to the radio 1 2 For hookup instructions, see pages 25 - 26. 1 2 BAND TUNING TIME SET Press BAND until the band you want appears in the display (direct power-on). Hold down TUNING•TIME SET Display + or – (TUNE + or – on the remote) until the frequency digits begin to change in the display. The player automatically scans the radio frequencies and stops when it finds a clear station. If you can't tune in a station, press the button repeatedly to change the frequency step by step.
Use these buttons for additional operations OPERATE PLAY MODE MONO/ST ISS Tips • If the FM broadcast is noisy, press PLAY MODE•MONO/ST ISS until “MONO” appears in the display and the radio will play in monaural. • Next time you want to listen to the radio, just press BAND. The player turns on automatically and starts playing the previous station. • RDS is available only on FM stations.

N m Basic Operations Use these buttons for additional operations OPERATE PLAY MODE MONO/ST ISS p6 P Tips • Adjusting the volume or the audio emphasis (see page 27) will not affect the recording level. • If the MW/LW program makes a whistling sound after you've pressed r in step 3, press PLAY MODE• MONO/ST ISS (Interference Suppress switch) repeatedly until the noise is at a minimum.
The CD Player Using the display You can check information about the CD using the display. DSPL ENT MEM Checking the total track numbers and playing time Press DSPL ENT MEM in stop mode. If the CD has more than 12 tracks, “OVER 12” appears in the display. Total playing time Total track numbers Music calendar Checking the remaining time Press DSPL ENT MEM while playing a CD. The track numbers in the music calendar disappear after they are played.
Locating a specific track Number buttons The CD Player You can quickly locate any track using the number buttons on the remote. You can also find a specific point in a track while playing a CD. =, + Note You cannot locate a specific track if “SHUF” or “PGM” is lit in the display. Turn off the indication by pressing p. Tip When you locate a track numbered over 10, press >10 first, then the corresponding number buttons. Example: To play track number 23, press >10 first, then 2 and 3.
Playing tracks repeatedly (Repeat Play) Number buttons You can play tracks repeatedly in normal, shuffle or program play modes (see pages 15 - 17). MODE p ( LOOP On the player • Use PLAY MODE• MONO/ST ISS instead of MODE. • When you’ve selected REP 1, select the track by pressing = or + then ^. Tip Press and hold LOOP on the remote during play to repeat a selected part of a CD. When you release LOOP, the player returns to normal play. 1 Press p. “CD” appears in the display.
Playing tracks in random order (Shuffle Play) MODE The CD Player You can play tracks in random order. p ( On the player 1 Press p. 2 Press PLAY MODE• MONO/ST ISS until “SHUF” appears in the display. 3 Press ^. 1 Press p. 2 3 Press MODE until “SHUF” appears in the display. “CD” appears in the display. Press ( to start shuffle play. To cancel Shuffle Play Press MODE until “SHUF” disappears from the display.
Creating your own program (Program Play) Number buttons You can arrange the playing order of up to 20 tracks on a CD. MODE p ( On the player 1 Press p. 2 Press PLAY MODE• MONO/ST ISS until “PGM” appears in the display. 3 Press = or + and then press DSPL ENT MEM for the tracks you want to program in the order you want. 4 Press ^. Tips • You can play the same program again, since the program is saved until you open the CD compartment. • You can record your own program.
To cancel Program Play Press MODE until “PGM” disappears from the display. Every time you press the button, the track number appears in the programed order. To change the current program Press p once if the CD is stopped and twice if the CD is playing. The current program will be erased. Then create a new program following the programing procedure. The CD Player The CD Player To check the order of tracks before play Press DSPL ENT MEM on the player.
The Radio Presetting radio stations You can store radio stations into the player’s memory. You can preset up to 30 radio stations, 10 for each band. Number buttons BAND On the player 1 Press BAND to select the band. 2 Set the frequency to the station you want. 3 Press and hold DSPL ENT MEM for 2 seconds. 4 Press PRESET + or – until the preset number (1 to 10) you want for the station flashes in the music calendar. 5 Press DSPL ENT MEM again.
Playing preset radio stations Number buttons The Radio Once you've preset the stations, use the number buttons on the remote or the PRESET +/– to tune in your favorite stations. BAND On the player 1 Press BAND to select the band. 2 Press PRESET + or – to tune in the stored station. 1 2 Press BAND to select the band. Press the number buttons to tune in the stored station.
The Timer Setting the clock CLOCK “– –:– –” indication appears in the display until you set the clock. SUMMER TUNING TIME SET +, – DSPL ENT MEM Tip The time display system: 24-hour system Before you begin, hook up the system (see pages 25 26). 1 Press and hold CLOCK for 2 seconds until the hour digit flashes. 2 Press TUNING•TIME SET + or – until you set the current hour. Then press DSPL ENT MEM. The minute digits flash.
Waking up to music SNOOZE TIMER You can wake up to music or a radio program at a preset time. Make sure you have set the clock (“Setting the clock” on page 20). STANDBY TUNING TIME SET +, – The Timer DSPL ENT MEM Before you begin, make sure the t (clock) indication is not lit in the display. If it is lit, press STANDBY. 1 2 Prepare the music source you want to play. To play Do this the radio Tune in a station. a CD Insert a CD. Press TIMER.

Tips • To exit the standby mode, press STANDBY to make the t indication disappear from the display. • The preset settings remain until you reset them. 7 Press STANDBY. Note When you press ( or r button of the tape player in the timer mode: If the tape length of one side is longer than the set time, the player will be turned off at the end of the tape, not at the set time.
To doze for a few more minutes Press SNOOZE. “SNOOZE” appears in the display and the power goes off. The player turns on automatically after about 5 minutes. You can repeat this process by pressing SNOOZE. To cancel the snooze function Press OPERATE to turn on the power. The Timer Note To activate the snooze function, make sure that: – 6 or more minutes are left before the preset time for the music to go off. – the tape player is not in the playback or recording mode.
Falling asleep to music You can set the player to turn off automatically after 10, 20, 30, 60, 90, and 120 minutes, allowing you to fall asleep while listening to music. Tips • When you are playing radio or CD, make sure that ( of the tape player is not depressed. • You can fall asleep and wake up to different music. Set the waking up timer first (see page 21), turn on the power, and then set the sleeping timer. However, you cannot store different radio stations.

Selecting the audio emphasis (SOUND/MEGA BASS) SOUND MEGA BASS You can adjust the audio emphasis of the sound you are listening to. Press SOUND to select the audio emphasis you want.
Additional Information Precautions On safety • As the laser beam used in the CD player section is harmful to the eyes, do not attempt to disassemble the casing. Refer servicing to qualified personnel only. • Do not place anything within 10 mm of the side of the cabinet. The ventilation holes must be unobstructed for the player to operate properly and prolong the life of its components.
Notes on CDs • Before playing, clean the CD with a cleaning cloth. Wipe the CD from the center out. Notes on cassettes • Break off the cassette tab from side A or B to prevent accidental recording. If you want to reuse the tape for recording, cover the broken tab with adhesive tape. Side A • Do not use solvents such as benzine, thinner, commercially available cleaners or anti-static spray intended for vinyl LPs.
Troubleshooting Symptom Remedy The power is not on. • Connect the mains lead to a wall outlet securely. There is no audio. • Make sure that the speakers are connected correctly. General • Make sure the function you want to use appears in the display. • Adjust the volume. • Unplug the headphones when listening through speakers. Noise is heard. • Someone is using a portable telephone or other equipment that emits radio waves near the player. n Move the portable telephone, etc., away from the player.

Maintenance Cleaning the lens If the lens becomes dirty, it may cause a skipping of sound during CD operation. Clean with a commercially available blower. Cleaning the tape heads and tape path Wipe the heads, the pinch roller and the capstan with a cleaning swab slightly moistened with cleaning fluid or alcohol after every 10 hours of operation for optimum playback and recording quality.

Colocación • No deje el reproductor en un lugar cercano a fuentes térmicas ni expuesto a la luz solar directa, al polvo excesivo ni a golpes mecánicos.
Funcionamiento • Si desplaza el reproductor directamente de un lugar frío a otro cálido, o si lo coloca en una sala muy húmeda, puede condensarse humedad en la lente del interior de la sección del reproductor de discos compactos. Si esto ocurre, el reproductor no funcionará adecuadamente. En este caso, extraiga el CD y espere durante una hora aproximadamente hasta que se evapore la humedad.

Mantenimiento Limpieza de la lente Si la lente se ensucia, pueden producirse pérdidas de sonido durante la reproducción del CD. Límpiela con un soplador disponible en las tiendas del ramo.
