Carrier Assembly
Disassemble Differential Carrier
(with power divider removed)
Dual range axles only
1. Remove shift fork seal and spring.
2. Remove expansion plugs.
3. Working at the lower (or small) plug hole, drive out
the shift fork shaft.
4. Disengage shift fork yoke from sliding collars.
5. Remove clutch and shift fork.
Planetary double reduction axles
A sun gear is used in place of sliding clutch gear. To remove
sun gear:
1. Remove capscrews and the retainer which holds gear
in position.
2. Remove sun gear.
Models with Ring Gear Thrust Bolt
Note: If the carrier model has a ring gear thrust bolt installed,
it must be backed away from the ring gear before you can
remove the wheel differential.
1. Back off thrust bolt jam nut.
2. Back out thrust bolt from the carrier until the end of
the bolt is flush with the inside of the carrier casting.
This will allow enough clearance between the ring
gear and the carrier pilot web.
