General information 1.2 Notational conventions This manual uses the following notational conventions: Letterings The letterings for connectors and controls are marked by square brackets and italics. Examples: [VOLUME] control, [Mono] button. Displays Texts and values displayed on the device are marked by quotation marks and italics. Examples: ‘24ch’ , ‘OFF’ .

Safety instructions 2 Safety instructions Intended use This device is intended to be used to record and reproduce DMX signals. Use the device only as described in this user manual. Any other use or use under other operating conditions is consid‐ ered to be improper and may result in personal injury or property damage. No liability will be assumed for damages resulting from improper use.
Safety instructions NOTICE! External power supply The device is powered by an external power supply. Before connecting the external power supply, ensure that the input voltage (AC outlet) matches the voltage rating of the device and that the AC outlet is protected by a residual current circuit breaker. Failure to do so could result in damage to the device and possibly the user.

Possible staining The plasticiser contained in the rubber feet of this product may possibly react with the coating of your surface and after some time cause permanent dark stains. In case of doubt, do not put the rubber feet directly on the surface and use a suitable underlay if neces‐ sary, i.e. felt-pad floor protectors or similar.

Installation 4 Installation Unpack and check carefully there is no transportation damage before using the unit. Keep the equipment packaging. To fully protect the product against vibration, dust and moisture during transportation or storage use the original packaging or your own packaging material suitable for transport or storage, respectively. Rack mounting The unit has been designed for rack mounting in a standard 19-inch rack; it occupies one rack unit.

Connect the output of the first DMX device to the input of the second one, and so on to form a daisy chain. Always ensure that the output of the last DMX device in the daisy chain is terminated with a resistor (110 Ω, ¼ W).

Operating 7 Operating With this device you can record DMX signal sequences. The DMX sequences are recorded to individual files on an SD memory card. Each SD memory card can contain twelve files in total. You can play back the stored sequences once, or run in an endless loop or let the built-in timer control the playback. 7.1 Record Procedure DMX 02-08-2012 T 01:23:31 1. Operating 7.2 Playback Procedure 1. Make sure that there is no DMX signal present at the input ([DMX IN]). Otherwise, no stored DMX sequence can be played. 2. Make sure that an SD memory card is inserted into the card slot on the front panel. 3. The device must be in normal operating state, where no menu is open. The display shows date and time. If any menu should still be open, press to quit the menu. 4. Use the keypad to select a file to be reproduced.

Operating 7.4 Updating the firmware Procedure 1. Save the new firmware with the file name DMX-REC.SUP to the directory SD:\DMX-REC on an SD memory card. 2. Insert the SD memory card containing the new firmware into the card slot of the device and switch the unit off. 3. Keep [REC], on. and [7] of the keypad simultaneously pressed while switching the unit ð The display message ‘Find update file’ indicates, that the new firmware is looked for. 4.
Operating 7.5 Remote control The DMX recorder can also be remote controlled using the remote control Stairville PocketMaster (item no. 168964). Once a remote controller is connected, its LED [STAND BY] is flashing. Activating remote control As after activation of the remote control it is no longer possible to control the DMX recorder directly, you should select all desired functions (e.g.: loop) before the remote control is acti‐ vated.
Operating Activating / deactivating ‘BLACK OUT’ Briefly press [STAND BY] to activate or deactivate the ‘BLACK OUT’ on the DMX recorder. Deactivating remote control Press [STAND BY] for at least 3 seconds to deactivate the remote control. Only then you may disconnect the remote controller from the DMX recorder. Otherwise, the functions remain disabled at the DMX recorder.
