INSTRUCTIONS PERTAINING TO THE 12V DC/USB CHARGING ADAPTER

READING THE BATTERY/CHARGE STATUS LED INDICATOR
Thebattery/chargestatusLEDindicatorislocatedinsidethetranslucentUSBPowerButton.Itlightsorflashesintwocolorsto
indicatethefollowing:
When charging:
Blue: Batteryisinafullychargedstate.
Blue (flashing): Batteryisinapartiallychargedstate.
Red (flashing): Batteryneedstoberecharged.
Red (flashing rapidly): Thebatteryoftheunitisoverheatedduetoextensiveuseorrecharging.Thechargingprocesswillstopat
thisstageandwillautomaticallyresumeafteracooldownperiod.
When operating the USB port (once the translucent USB power button has been pressed):
Blue:Batteryisoperatingatfullvoltage.
Red: Batteryisoperatingatpartialvoltage.
Red (flashing rapidly):
•Batteryisoperatingatextremelylowvoltage.Thebuilt-inlowvoltageprotectionhasactivatedandtheunitwillautomaticallyshut
down.Theunitmustberechargedimmediately. OR
•Thebatteryoftheunitisoverheated(duetoextensiveuseorrecharging),oristoocold(theambienttemperaturehasdropped
below–20°C).Operationwillstopatthisstage.
CHARGING/RECHARGING THE LIGHT
Thisunitisshippedinapartiallychargedstate.ChargeunitafterpurchaseandBEFOREfirstuseuntilthebattery/chargestatusLED
indicatorlightsblue.
Rechargeaftereachuseuntilthebattery/chargestatusLEDindicatorlightsblue.
IMPORTANT: When the unit is not in use, we recommend that the battery is charged at least every 3 to 6 months.
CAUTION: TO REDUCE THE RISK OF INJURY OR PROPERTY DAMAGE:
•Neverplacethelightfacedownonanysurfacewhencharging.
•MakesurethelightisturnedOFFduringrecharging,asoperatingthelightcanslowtherechargingprocess.

Charging/recharging using the 12 Volt DC/USB Charging Adapter
1. Makesurethepower/lightmodebuttonandthetranslucentUSBpowerbuttonarebothturnedoff*(thelightisnotlitandthe
translucentUSBpowerindicator/powerbuttonisnotlit).

2.InserttheUSBchargingcableintotheUSBportonthelight.

powersource.TheLEDindicatoronthe12voltDC/USBchargingadapterwilllightgreenwhenitisproperlypluggedintothe
12voltDCpowersource.Thebattery/chargestatusLEDindicatorwilllightorflashinoneoftwocolors(asdescribedinthe

Note: Somevehiclesrequirethattheignitionbeswitchedtotheaccessorypositioninordertopowertheaccessoryoutlet.
5. Chargeuntilthebattery/chargestatusLEDindicatorlightsblue.
6. Whenchargingiscomplete,firstunplugthe12voltDC/USBchargingadapterfromthe12voltDCpowersource,thendisconnect
theUSBchargingcablefromtheadapterandthelight.Storetheadapterandcableinasafeplace.
Charging/recharging using the 120 Volt AC/USB Charging Adapter
1. Makesurethepower/lightmodebuttonandthetranslucentUSBpowerbuttonarebothturnedoff*(thelightisnotlitandthe
translucentUSBpowerindicator/powerbuttonisnotlit).
*The translucent button does not operate the light, only the USB power port.
2.InserttheUSBchargingcableintotheUSBportonthelight.
3.InserttheotherendoftheUSBchargingcableintothe120voltAC/USBchargingadapter.
4. Insertthe120voltAC/USBchargingadapterintoafunctioning120voltACpowersource.Thebattery/chargestatusLEDindicator

5. Chargeuntilthebattery/chargestatusLEDindicatorlightsblue.
6. Whenchargingiscomplete,firstunplugthe120voltAC/USBchargingadapterfromthe120voltACpowersource,then
disconnecttheUSBchargingcablefromtheadapterandthelight.Storetheadapterandcableinasafeplace.
Charging/recharging using the USB charging cable and a device with a USB
power port (not supplied)
1. Makesurethepower/lightmodebuttonandthetranslucentUSBpowerbuttonarebothturnedoff*(thelightisnotlitandthe
translucentUSBpowerindicator/powerbuttonisnotlit).

OPERATING THE LIGHT
Thepower/lightmodebuttonturnsthelightonandoff;andisalsousedtoselectthelightmode.
CAUTION: DO NOT OPERATE WHILE CHARGING.
Notes: Thebattery/chargestatusLEDindicatorwillnotlightduringoperationofthelight.
Tocheckthebatterystatus,makesurethelightisturnedoff,thenpressonthetranslucentUSBpowerbutton.Thebattery/chargestatusLED
indicatorwilllightorflashinoneoftwocolors(asdescribedinthe“ReadingtheBattery/ChargeStatusLEDIndicator”section)toindicate
theinternalbatterystatus.
Disconnectthechargingcableoradapter,thenselectthelightmodeasfollows:
High: Toturnthelightonandusethelightatitshigh(bright)setting,pressthepower/lightmodebuttononce.
Low: Toturnthelightonandusethelightatitslow(dimmer)setting,pressthepower/lightmodebuttonasecondtime.
Off: Toturnthelightoff,pressthepower/lightmodebuttonathirdtime.
Flash: TousealltheLEDsflashing,pressandholdthepower/lightmodebuttonanytimeforabout5seconds.
Toturnthelightoffinflashmode,pressthepower/lightmodebuttononce.
IMPORTANT – To protect the unit’s internal battery from damage and save energy:
•IfthetranslucentUSBpowerbuttonispressedtoturnontheUSBPortwhentheunitisoperatinginanylightmode,theunitwill
switchautomaticallytoLowLightMode.
•Ifthelight’sbatteryvoltageisnearlylow,theunitwillswitchautomaticallytolowlightmodeevenifanotherlightmodehasbeen
selected.
•Ifthelight’sbatteryvoltageislow,thebuilt-inlowvoltageprotectionwillactivateafterashortperiodofoperation,thentheunit
willautomaticallyshutdown.Rechargethebatterybeforecontinuinguse.
Adjusting the pivot tube

tobetiltedbackwardandforwardtodirecttheilluminationupwardordownward.

•Donotattemptto“force”thepivottubebeyonditsmaximumangle.
•Thepivottubewasdesignedtotiltforwardandbackwardonly.
•Thepivottubewasdesignedtobeusedwhentheunitishangingorattachedtoasurfaceusingitsmagneticbase.Usingitwhen
theunitisplacedonalevel,non-metallicsurfacemaycausetheBarFlex
®
tofalloverandsustaindamage.
•NEVERattempttorotatethelighttubeitself.Alwaysusethepivottubetoadjusttheareaofillumination.
Using the carabineer hanging hook and magnetic base
ThehanginghookandmagneticbaseallowyoutopositiontheBarFlex
®
forconvenient,hands-freeoperation.Thehanginghook
rotates360°todirectilluminationasneeded.
CAUTION – TO REDUCE THE RISK OF PRODUCT DAMAGE:
•Whenthehanginghookisinuseorthelightisattachedusingthemagneticbase,donotshakethelight.
•Whenlightishungbythehanginghookorattachedusingthemagneticbase,donotshakethelightorobjectthatitishanging
fromorattachedto.Donothangthelightfromorattachthelighttoanyelectricalwiresoranythingthatitisnotsecure.
•OnlyusethehanginghookforhangingtheBarFlex®.Thehanginghookisnotintendedtosupportadditionalweight.Donot
attachorhanganythingadditionaltothelightorriskofbreakagemayoccur.
OPERATING THE LIGHT’S USB PORT
Thelight’sUSBportprovides5volts/1AofDCpowertoanexternalUSBpowereddevice.
1. DisconnecttheUSBchargingcableandmakesurethelightisturnedoff.
2. PressthetranslucentUSBpowerbuttontopowerontheUSBport.Thebattery/chargestatusLEDindicatorwilllightorflashin
oneoftwocolors(asdescribedinthe“ReadingtheBattery/ChargeStatusLEDIndicator”section)toindicatetheinternalbattery
status.
3. SimplyplugtheUSBdeviceintothelight’sUSBportandoperatenormally.
4. PressthetranslucentUSBpowerbuttonagaintoturnofftheUSBport.MakesurethetranslucentUSBpowerbuttonisintheoff
position(isnotlit)whentheunitisbeingrechargedorstored.
IMPORTANT: IftheUSBportisinuse,thelightwillonlyoperateinLoworFlashlightmode.
OPERATING THE 120 VOLT AC/USB CHARGING ADAPTER’S USB PORT
Plugthe120voltAC/USBchargingadapterintoa(powered)standardNorthAmerican120volt60Hzoutlet.Thensimplyplugthe
USBdeviceintotheUSBoutletandoperatenormally.

OPERATING THE 12 VOLT DC/USB CHARGING ADAPTER’S USB PORT
Plugthe12voltDC/USBchargingadapterintoavehicle’s12voltDCaccessoryoutletorotherfunctioning12voltDCpowersource.
TheLEDindicatoronthe12voltDC/USBchargingadapterwilllightgreentoindicatethatitisproperlyconnected.Thensimplyplug
theUSBdeviceintotheUSBoutletandoperatenormally.
Note: Somevehiclesrequirethattheignitionbeswitchedtotheaccessoryoutletpositioninordertopowertheaccessoryoutlet
CARE AND MAINTENANCE
Allbatteriesloseenergyfromself-dischargeovertimeandmorerapidlyathighertemperatures.Whentheunitisnotinuse,we
recommendthatthebatteryischargedatleastevery3to6months.
Iftheunitgetsdirty,gentlycleantheoutersurfacesofthelightunitwithasoftclothmoistenedwithamildsolutionofwaterand
detergent.
Exceptforthefuseinthe12voltDC/USBchargingadapter,therearenouser-replaceableparts.Periodicallyinspecttheconditionof
adapters,connectorsandwires.Contactmanufacturertoreplaceanycomponentsthathavebecomewornorbroken.
Battery replacement/disposal
BATTERYREPLACEMENT
Thebatteryshouldlasttheservicelifeoftheunit.Servicelifeisdependentonanumberoffactorsincludingbutnotlimitedto
thenumberofrechargecycles,andpropercareandmaintenanceofthebatterybytheenduser.Contactmanufacturerforany
informationyoumayneed.
SAFEBATTERYDISPOSAL
Containsalithium-ionbattery,whichmustbedisposedofproperly.Recyclingisrequired.Failuretocomply
withlocal,stateandfederalregulationscanresultinfines,orimprisonment.
Pleaserecycle.
WARNINGS:
•Donotdisposeofthebatteryinfireasthismayresultinanexplosion.
•Beforedisposingofthebattery,protectexposedterminalswithheavy-dutyelectricaltapetopreventshorting(shortingcanresult
ininjuryorfire).
•Donotexposebatterytofireorintenseheatasitmayexplode.

TROUBLESHOOTING
The light will not charge
•CheckthatthelightandtheUSBportareallturnedoff.
•CheckthattheUSBchargingcableisproperlyconnectedtoeitherthe12VDC/USBchargingadapterorthe120VAC/USBcharging
adapter,andtothelight.
•ChecktheconnectiontotheACorDCpowersource.Makesurethereisgoodcontact.
•ConfirmthatthereisfunctioningACorDCcurrent.
•Checktheplugfuseinthe12VDC/USBchargingadapter.Replacethefusefollowingtheinstructionsinthismanual,ifnecessary.
•Theunitmayhaveshutdowntoprotectthebatteryfromoverheatingafteralongperiodofoperationorcharging.Unplugthe
chargingadapterfromthepowersourceanddisconnecttheUSBchargingcablefromthelight.Allowthelighttocooldownfora
periodbeforeresumingcharging.
The light will not operate
•Makesurethepower/lightmodebuttonhasbeenpressedtoturnthelighton.
•CheckthatthetranslucentUSBpowerbuttonisturnedoff.
•Theinternalbatterymaybecompletelydischarged.Chargetheunitfollowingthedirectionsgiveninthismanual.
•Theunitmayhaveshutdowntoprotectthebatteryfromoverheatingafteralongperiodofoperationorcharging;ortheambient
temperaturehasdroppedbelow–20°C.Allowthelighttocooldownorwarmupforaperiodbeforeresumingoperation.

•NEVER THROW WATER ON A BURNING LI-ION BATTERY! If a lithium-ion battery does catch on fire, it will burn even
more violently if it comes in contact with water or even moisture in the air. A fire extinguisher must be used.
Battery Charging and Capacity
Thisunitisdeliveredinapartiallychargedstate–youmustfullychargeitbeforeusingitforthefirsttime.
Whenstoredatroomtemperaturewithafullcharge,Li-ionbatterieswillwillbegintodischargefromthetimetheyare
manufactured,evenwhenunused.Deepdischargesalsodecreasetheircapacity.Batterylifecanbeextendedbythefollowing:
•Chargebatterytofullcapacitybeforestorage.
•Optimalstoragetemperatureforthisunitisbetween5°Cand20°C(41°Fand68°F).
•Neverdischargethebatteryfully.
•Chargeaftereachuse.
•Alwayschargeatleastonceevery3-6monthsifnotinfrequentusetopreventoverdischarge.
