Thesoftwarewillnotknowthatthesearecommands,soyoucannottrust
yoursoftwareto giveyou thecorrectlinewidth.Theprintedlinemaybc
considerablyshorterthanthelineonthescreen;theextraspacebeingthe
spacethatwas occupiedby thecommands.
Onewayto handlethelastproblemistoprepareyourdocumentwithoutthe
commands,theninsertthemasa finalstep,withthemarginsreleased.The
find,replace,andcopyfunctionsofword-processingsoftwarecanbehelpful
here.
Ifyoudonotusethesecommandsorthepanelcontrols,theprinterwillprint
standard-size,Romancharactem
The printersupportsvariouscommandsin additionto the above,such as
quadruple-sizeprinting.Mostoftheseothercommandsconsistofthecscapc
codefollowedby oneor morelettersor numbers.
If yoursoftwareenablesyoutoplacetheescapecodein yourfiles,or if you
areabletodefinethisasauseroptionduringinstallation,youcanalsoembed
theseescapesequences.
PROGRAMMING THE PRINTER WITH DOS
COMMANDS
If yoursystemincludesthe file PRINT.COMyou can use the main DOS
printingcommand.SimplytypethewordPRINTfollowedbythenameofthe
fileyou wantto print.To printa filenamedREADME.DOC,forexample,
type:
