USER MANUAL APEX POD v3.0

The APEX Pod is a wearable device that is used to measure the performance of elite athletes.

The APEX unit consists of a ST Microelectronics Cortex-M7 central processing unit, with several

different sensors to measure and record, via onboard storage, different characteristics of an elite

athlete’s performance.

The unit contains the following sensors:

• GPS module

• 3-D accelerometer

• 3-D gyroscope

• 3-D digital compass

• Magnetic Heart rate receiver.

• User Interface via OLED

All sensors are continuously sampled, and the data is logged onto an onboard SD card in real

time. In addition, the same sampled data from the sensors can be simultaneously streamed from

the device via Bluetooth or UWB.

Operating the Pod The individual pods are configured prior to their use via a USB serial connection to a computer running STATSports Apex application. This can be provided by a simple Micro USB Cable, however the 10/16/32 Way Apex Docking Stations are more commonly utilised for this purpose. Once the settings are configured the pods are disconnected and rebooted, at which time they will begin to search for GPS satellite signals.
