1. INTRODUCTION This manual has been compiled to help you operate your craft with safety and pleasure. It contains details of the craft, the equipment supplied or fitted, its systems, and information on its operation and maintenance. Please read it carefully, and familiarize yourself with the craft before using it.
3. BOATING SAFETY This is the safety alert symbol. It is used to alert you to potential personal injury hazards. Obey all safety messages that follow this symbol to avoid possible injury or death. Indicates an imminently hazardous situation which, if not avoided, will result in death or serious injury or substantial property damage. 3.1 Boating Regulations The U.S. Coast Guard is the authority of the waterways; they are there to help the boating public. State boating regulations are enforced by local authorities. You are subject to marine traffic laws and “Rules of the Road” for both federal and state waterways; you must stop if signaled to do so by enforcement officers. There are many pamphlets, prepared by the Coast Guard, available to you.
3.2 RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE OPERATOR(S) IMPORTANT Users of this product agree by their use to accept the inherent risks involved in this water sports activity and agree to follow all instructions, DANGERS, CAUTIONS, and WARNINGS carefully before using their STEARNS® canoe. • READ OWNER’S MANUAL: Improper Use May Cause Injury or Death. Pay close attention to items marked “DANGER,” “WARNING,” “CAUTION” or “NEVER.” • Use the canoe in a SAFE and SOBER manner, taking all reasonable precautions.

Acceptable seating determines the number of passengers, not the overall load capacity.

5. PREPARING YOUR STEARNS® INFLATABLE CANOE The STEARNS® Inflatable canoe is designed for recreational use and can be used in a number of settings. Every usage has its own set of required skill levels and dangers. Be sure you are prepared for each use before attempting it and you understand the inherent dangers. Inflation Setup Use a STEARNS® “bellows” style foot pump (Model B502) or equivalent pump to inflate your canoe. Use caution not to over inflate your canoe.
5.2 KNOWING YOUR VALVES Stearns Canoe uses two types of valves. Type I and II (II is a smaller version of Type I) to inflate floor and main chambers. Each internal air chambers are aligned in relation with the cover which can be adjusted by unzipping the cover access zippers 2.
5.4 OVER-INFLATION Do not over-inflate the canoe. Over-inflation is the primary cause of leaks. Inflate the canoe until most of the wrinkles in the fabric are gone and it feels firm to the touch, but do not exceed 1.75 psi (0.12 bar) in the main air chambers and 1.0 psi (0.07 bar) in the floor chamber. Water temperature and weather affect the air pressure in the boat. In cold weather your canoe will lose some pressure because the air will contract.
6. UNDERWAY In all your uses of STEARNS® Inflatable canoe, make SAFETY a high priority. Each person should wear an approved personal flotation device. Learn about your boating area. Get official information about the local conditions, tides and currents before canoeing there. Be careful that you do not overestimate your strength, endurance or skill. Be careful never to underestimate the forces of nature. 6.1 Before You Start Be smart when canoeing and using your equipment. • Properly inflate your canoe.
6.3 Care and Maintenance The STEARNS® inflatable canoe is made of very durable materials. However, like anything else, proper care will increase the life of your canoe. Before storing your canoe, make sure it is clean and completely dry before you store it in its carrying bag. It should be deflated and kept out of direct sunlight when stored. Avoid exposure to extreme temperatures (hot or cold). If your canoe is exposed to freezing temperatures while storing, allow it to warm before unfolding.
7. REPAIRS The STEARNS® Back Country comes equipped with a repair kit that includes adhesive and several patches. This can be found in the mesh pocket and should remain with the canoe. Making repairs to the inner tube of the canoe may require unzipping the cover and temporarily removing the tube. Always make sure the canoe is fully deflated before unzipping the cover. If there is difficulty opening the zipper, refer to the section “Care and Maintenance.
7.3 Seam Openings Seam openings are difficult to repair but can be done with certain seam repair adhesives. Contact STEARNS® for more information or ask your local marine shop. 8. TROUBLESHOOTING This chart will help you find and correct minor problems with your canoe. Problem Solution Slow leak. Check valve gaskets and make sure the cap tether is not interfering with the seal. The valve gaskets must be closed tightly. Still leaks slowly. Check for pinholes. Read section “Repairing Pinholes.
9. LIMITED WARRANTY STEARNS® warrants this product to be free from defects in material or workmanship for a period of one year from the date of purchase. Products that prove to be defective under conditions of normal and proper use during the warranty period because of defective workmanship or faulty material will be replaced or repaired without charge. For warranty service, return product to place of purchase.

3.1 Normas para el uso de canoas La Guardia Costera de los EE.UU. (U.S. Coast Guard) es la autoridad a cargo de las vías navegables. Una de sus funciones es ayudar al público que usa embarcaciones. Las autoridades locales son las encargadas de hacer cumplir los reglamentos estatales sobre el uso de embarcaciones.

5. PREPARACIÓN DE LA CANOA INFLABLE STEARNS® La canoa inflable STEARNS® está diseñada para actividades recreativas y puede utilizarse con distintas configuraciones. Cada uso exige un nivel diferente de destreza e involucra sus propios riesgos. Asegúrese de estar preparado y de comprender los riesgos inherentes antes de empezar a usarla. Instrucciones de inflado Use un inflador de pie del tipo fuelle STEARNS® (modelo B502) u otro similar para inflar la canoa. Tenga cuidado de no inflarla demasiado.
5.2 DESCRIPCIÓN DE LAS VÁLVULAS Las canoas Stearns tienen dos tipos de válvulas. Tipo I y II (II es una versión más pequeña del Tipo I) para inflar las cámaras principales y del piso. 5.4 EXCESO DE INFLADO PRECAUCIÓN No infle la canoa en exceso. El exceso de inflado es la causa principal de fugas. Infle la canoa hasta que la mayoría de las arrugas desaparezcan de la tela y se sienta firme al toque, pero no exceda 1.75 psi (0.07 bar) de presión en las cámaras principales, ni 1.0 psi (0.07 bar) en las cámaras del piso. La temperatura del agua y el clima afectan la presión del aire de la canoa. En clima frío, la canoa pierde algo de presión porque el aire se contrae.
6. PARTIDA Cada vez que utiliza una canoa inflable STEARNS®, haga de la SEGURIDAD su más alta prioridad. Cada persona debe usar un dispositivo de flotación personal aprobado. Obtenga información del área donde utilizará la canoa, especialmente la información oficial de las corrientes, mareas y condiciones locales antes de navegar en su canoa en dicha área. Tenga cuidado de no sobrestimar su fortaleza, resistencia ni destreza. Nunca subestime las fuerzas de la naturaleza. 6.
6.3 Cuidado y mantenimiento Las canoas inflables STEARNS® están fabricadas con materiales muy durables. Sin embargo, como sucede con cualquier producto, el cuidado adecuado prolongará la vida de su canoa. Antes de guardarla, asegúrese de que al colocarla en la bolsa de transporte esté limpia y completamente seca. Cuando la guarde, debe desinflarla y mantenerla alejada de la luz directa del sol. Evite exponerla a temperaturas extremas (calientes o frías).
7. REPARACIONES Todas las canoas Bac Country de STEARNS® incluyen un equipo de reparación con material adhesivo y varios parches. Éste se encuentra en el bolsillo de malla y debe permanecer en la canoa. Para efectuar reparaciones en el tubo interior de la canoa es posible que sea necesario abrir el cierre de cremallera de la cubierta y retirar temporalmente el tubo. Asegúrese de que la canoa esté totalmente desinflada antes de abrir el cierre de cremallera de la cubierta.
7.3 Fallas en la costura Las fallas en las costuras son difíciles de reparar, pero no imposible con ciertos tipos de pegamento para reparación de costuras. 5. PRÉPARER VOTRE CANOË GONFLABLE STEARNS® Le canoë gonflable STEARNS® est conçu à des fins récréatives et peut servir dans un certain nombre de milieux. Chaque utilisation a son propre ensemble de niveaux de compétences requis et ses dangers. Assurez-vous d'être prêt pour chaque utilisation avant d'essayer et de comprendre les dangers inhérents. Préparation de gonflage Utilisez une pompe à pieds de type à « soufflet » STEARNS® (modèle B502) ou une pompe équivalent pour gonfler votre canoë.
5.2 CONNAÎTRE VOS VALVES Les canoës de Stearns utilisent deux types de valves. Le type I et II (type II est une version un peu plus petite) pour gonfler le fond et les chambres principales. 5.4 SURGONFLAGE PRÉCAUTION Ne surgonflez pas le canoë. Surgonfler est la cause principale des fuites. Gonflez le canoë jusqu'à ce que la plupart des rides du tissu soient retirées et que le tout soit ferme au toucher, mais sans dépasser 1,75 psi (0,12 bar) dans les chambres à air principales et 1,0 psi (0,07 mm) dans la chambre du fond. Le temps et la température de l'eau affectent la pression de l'air dans le bateau. Par temps froids, votre canoë perdra de la pression à cause de la contraction de l'air.
6. EN ROUTE Pour toutes les utilisations de vos canoës gonflables STEARNS® faites de la SÉCURITÉ votre priorité. Chaque passager doit porter un dispositif de flottaison individuel approuvé. Renseignez-vous sur la région de navigation. Obtenez de l'information officielle au sujet des conditions locales, des marées et des courants avant d'y naviguer en canoë. Attention de ne pas surestimer votre force, votre endurance ou vos compétences. Attention de ne jamais sous-estimer les forces de la nature. 6.
6.3 Entretien et maintenance Le canoë gonflable STEARNS® est fabriqué de matériaux très durables. Comme toute autre chose, un bon entretien prolongera la durée de vie utile de votre canoë. Avant de ranger votre canoë, assurez-vous qu'il soit propre et bien sec avant de le ranger dans son sac de transport. Il devrait être dégonflé et laissé hors du soleil pour son rangement. Évitez d'exposer votre bateau aux températures extrêmes (chaude ou froide).
7. RÉPARATIONS Les Back Country de STEARNS® sont dotés d'une trousse de réparation qui inclut de l'adhésif et plusieurs pièces de réparation. Elle se trouve dans la pochette en filet et doit rester dans le canoë. Pour réparer le tube intérieur du canoë, il faudra ouvrir la glissière de l'enveloppe et retirer temporairement le tube. Assurez-vous toujours que le canoë est entièrement dégonflé avant d'ouvrir la glissière de l'enveloppe.
7.3 Ouvertures de couture Les ouvertures de couture sont difficiles à réparer, mais cela peut se faire avec certains adhésifs de réparation de couture. Contactez STEARNS® pour plus d'information ou consultez votre boutique marine locale. 8. DÉPANNAGE Ce tableau vous aidera à trouver et à corriger les problèmes mineurs de votre canoë. Problème Solution Fuite lente Vérifiez les joints d'étanchéité de valve et assurez-vous que l'arrimage du capuchon n'entrave pas l'étanchéité.
9. GARANTIE LIMITÉE STEARNS® garantit que ce produit est libre de défauts de matériau et de main d'œuvre pendant une période d'un an à partir de la date d'achat. Les produits qui s'avèrent défectueux sous des conditions d'utilisation normales et appropriées durant la période de garantie à cause de matériaux défectueux ou de fabrication défectueuse seront remplacés ou réparés sans frais. 3.1 Bestimmungen für Boote Die U.S. Coast Guard hat die Weisungsbefugnis auf den Wasserwegen und schützt den öffentlichen Bootsverkehr. Die staatlichen Schifffahrtsordnungen werden von den lokalen Behörden durchgesetzt. 5. VORBEREITUNG IHRES STEARNS® KANU- SCHLAUCHBOOTES Das STEARNS® Kanu-Schlauchboot ist für den Freizeiteinsatz bestimmt und kann auf verschiedene Arten verwendet werden. Jede Verwendung erfordert ein bestimmtes Können und bringt gewisse Gefahren mit sich. Vergewissern Sie sich, dass Sie mit den Anforderungen vertraut sind und die möglichen Gefahren kennen. 5.4 ÜBERDRUCK VORSICHT Das Kanu nicht zu prall aufblasen. Die meisten Lecks werden durch Überdruck verursacht. Blasen Sie das Kanu nur soweit auf, bis die meisten Falten im Material ausgeglättet sind und es sich fest anfühlt. Beachten Sie, dass die Hauptluftkammern nur bis 0,12 bar Luftdruck und die Bodenkammer bis zu 0,07 bar aufgeblasen werden dürfen. Die Wassertemperatur und das Wetter verändern den Luftdruck im Boot. Bei Kälte verringert sich der Druck, weil sich die Luft zusammenzieht.
6. AUF DEM WASSER Sorgen Sie bei allen Einsätzen des STEARNS® Kanu-Schlauchbootes dafür, dass die SICHERHEIT höchste Priorität hat. Alle an Bord befindlichen Personen müssen eine genehmigte Rettungsweste tragen. Machen Sie sich mit dem Gebiet, in dem das Kanu benutzt wird, vertraut. Holen Sie offizielle Informationen über die örtlichen Bedingungen, Gezeiten und Wasserströmungen ein, bevor Sie das Kanu dort benutzen.
6.3 Pflege und Wartung Das STEARNS® Kanu-Schlauchboot ist aus strapazierfähigen Materialien hergestellt. Dennoch kann eine entsprechende Pflege, wie bei anderen Gegenständen auch, die Lebensdauer des Kanus verlängern. Vor dem Verstauen in der vorgesehenen Tragetasche darauf achten, dass das Kanu sauber und völlig trocken ist. Nur entleert und nicht in direktem Sonnenlicht aufbewahren. Extreme Temperaturen (heiß oder kalt) sind zu vermeiden.
7. REPARATUREN Das STEARNS® Back Country Kanu-Schlauchboot wird mit einem Reparatursatz geliefert, der Klebstoff und mehrere Flicken enthält. Dieser ist in der Netztasche verstaut und sollte stets im Kanu aufbewahrt werden. Wenn der innere Schlauch des Kanus repariert werden muss, muss eventuell die Hülle entfernt und der innere Schlauch vorübergehend herausgenommen werden. Achten Sie stets darauf, dass die Luft aus dem Kanu vollständig abgelassen ist, bevor Sie die Hülle öffnen.
7.3 Risse in der Schweißnaht Risse in der Schweißnaht können nur bedingt repariert werden; eine Reparatur ist aber mit besonderen Schweißnahtklebstoffen möglich.
