GENERALSAFETYINFORMATION
To operatethistool,readthisinstructionmanualand allthe labelsaffixed tothe benchgrindercarefully
beforeusing. Keepthismanualavailablefor future reference.Safetyis a combinationofcommon sense,
staying alert and knowing howyour benchgrinder works.
1. WORKAREA
Keepthe work areacleanand well lit. Cluttered benchesand dark areasinviteaccidents.Donot use
the tool in explosiveatmospheres,such as in the presenceof flammable liquids, gases, or dust.
Powertools createsparkswhich mayignitethe dust or fumes.Keepbystanders,visitors, andchildren
away while operating a power tool. Distractions cancauseyou to lose control.
2. ELECTRICALSAFETY

Groundedtools must be pluggedinto an outletproperly installedand grounded in accordancewith
all codesand ordinances.Neverremovethe grounding prong or modify the plug in anyway. Donot
useanyadapterplugs. Checkwith a qualifiedelectricianifyou are in doubtas to whetherthe outlet
is properlygrounded. If thetool electricallymalfunctionsor breaksdown, grounding providesa low
resistancepath to carry electricityawayfrom the user. Avoid contactwith grounded surfacessuch
as pipes, radiators, ranges,and refrigerators. There isan increased risk of electricalshock ifyour
body isgrounded.Donot expose powertools to rain or wet conditions. Waterentering a powertool
will increasethe risk of electric shock.
Do not abusethe cord. Never usethe cord to carry the tool or pull the plug from an outlet. Keep
the cord away from heat,oil, sharp edgesor moving parts. Replacedamagedcords immediately.
Damagedcords increasethe risk of electric shock.
Whenoperating a power tool outside, usean outdoor extension cord marked"W-A"or "W'. These
cords are ratedfor outdoor useand reducethe risk of electric shock.
PERSONALSAFETY
Stayalert, watchwhat you are doing, and usecommon sensewhen operatinga powertool. Do not
usethe tool whenyou are tired or underthe influenceof drugs, alcohol, or medication. A moment
of inattention while operating powertools may result in serious personal injury Dress properly. Do
not wear looseclothing or jewelry.Wear protective hair nettingto contain long hair. Keepyour hair,
clothing,and glovesawayfrom moving parts.Rubberglovesandnon-skidfootwearare recommended
when working outdoors.
Avoid accidentalstarting. Makesure the switch is off before plugging in. Carryingtools with your
finger on the switch or plugging in tools that havethe switch on invitesaccidents.
Removeadjustingkeysor switches beforeturning the tool on. A wrenchor a keythat isleft attached
to a rotating part of thetool mayresult in personalinjury. Do not overreach.Keepproper footing
and balanceat all times. Properfooting and balanceenablesbetter control ofthe tool in unexpected
situations. Usesafety equipment. Alwayswear eyeprotection. Dust mask, non-skid safety shoes,
hard hat, or hearingprotection must beusedfor appropriate conditions.
4. TOOLUSEANDCARE
Do not forcethe tool. Usethe correct tool for yourapplication.Do not usethe tool ifthe switch does
not turn it onor off. Any tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerousand must be
repaired. Disconnectthe plug from the power source beforemaking anyadjustments, changing
accessoriesor storing the tool. Such preventivesafety measuresreducethe risk of starting the tool
accidentally.Store idle tools out of reachof children and other untrained persons.

Tools are dangerousinthe hands of untrained users. Maintaintools with care.Keepcutting tools
sharpand clean. Properly maintainedtools with sharp cutting edgesare less likelyto bind andare
easierto control.Checkfor misalignmentor jamming of moving parts, breakageof partsandany
other conditionthat mayaffect thetools operation. If damaged,havethetool serviced before using.
Many accidentsare causedby poorly maintainedtools.
Useonly accessoriesthat arerecommendedbythe manufacturerfor your model. Accessoriesthat
may besuitablefor onetool, maybecome hazardouswhen used on anothertool.
5. SERVICE
Toolservice must be performedonly by qualified repairpersonnel.Serviceor maintenanceperformed
by unqualified personnel could result in a risk of injury. When servicing a tool, use only identical
replacementpartsFollowinstructions inthe Maintenancesectionof this manual.Useof unauthorized
partsor failureto follow maintenanceinstructions may createa risk of electricshock or injury.Some
dust created by power grinding contains chemicalsthat may causecancer,birth defects, or other
reproductiveharm. Someexamplesof these chemicalsare: Leadfrom lead-basedpaintCrystalline
silicafrom bricks, cement, and other masonry products Arsenic and chromium from chemically
treated lumber To reduceyour exposure to these chemicals: work in a well-ventilated area, use
approvedsafetyequipment, andusedust masksthat are speciallydesignedto filter out microscopic
particles.
SPECIFICSAFETYRULESFORTHEBENCHGRINDER
Alwaysusethe eyeshields,sparkarrestorsandwearsafetygoggleswith side shields.Useof unauthorized
parts or failureto follow maintenanceinstructions may createa risk of electricshockor injury. Replace
a crackedgrinding wheel immediately.Handlethe grinding wheels carefully.When replacing,do not
tighten the spindle nut too tightly, the strain candamagethe wheel.The wheel diameter decreases
with use. Adjust the tool rests whenever necessaryto maintain a distance of 1/8" or lessfrom the
grinding surface.Adjustthespark arrestorsto maintaina 1/16"distanceor lessfrom thewheel's surface.
Piecesof stone may bethrown off the rotating wheelwhen first starting the grinder. Always stand to
one side of the grinder wheelwhen turning it on, and wait at the side until the wheel isat full speed.
Make sure there is no flammablematerial nearthe exhaustchutes. The chute will channel outsparks
and debris.Neverapply pressureto the workpiecewhenthe grinding wheel is cold. Allow the wheelto
warm up by applying the workpiecegradually. Neverusethe grinder without the wheelguards. Keep
fingers awayfrom the wheel. Do not try to cut anythingwith the grinding wheel.Whenthe wheel is
worn out of round, usea wheeldressingtool to resurface it.
