File import and export
External les are les in different formats than Dorico projects, such as MIDI, MusicXML, or
tempo tracks. It is possible in Dorico SE both to import and export different types of les.
This can be useful if, for example, you want to share your project with others who use a different
notation software, or to convert the notes, audio, or time signatures and tempo information in
your project into other formats.
Importing ows
You can import individual ows into existing projects, for example, if you want to bring together
multiple existing pieces into one project for publishing, or if you have an empty project le with
your preferred settings saved and want to reuse those settings.
PROCEDURE
1. Choose File > Import > Flows to open the File Explorer/macOS Finder.
2. In the File Explorer/macOS Finder, locate and select the project les of the ows you want to
import.
3. Click Open to open the Flow Import Options dialog for the rst selected project.
4. In the Flow Import Options dialog, choose one of the following options for Player
handling:
Create All New Players
Merge with Existing Players Where Possible
5. In the Import ows list, activate the checkbox for each ow you want to import.
6. Click OK to import the selected ows and close the dialog.
7. Optional: If you selected multiple projects from which to import ows, repeat steps 4 to 6 for
each project. The Flow Import Options dialog reopens automatically for each project.
RESULT
The selected ows are imported into the project.
If you chose Create All New Players, new players are added as required for each ow.
If you chose Merge with Existing Players Where Possible, any players that the imported
ows and existing project have in common are merged, for example, if you imported a ow
containing a solo piano into a project containing a piano and viola, the imported ow is
added to the existing piano player.
NOTE
Players are not automatically added to ows that you imported into the project.
You can also open ows directly if you want them to be separate projects rather than new
ows in existing projects.
