Holding the chain saw
There are two ways to hold the chain
saw during starting.
On the ground
N Place the chain saw securely on the
ground and assume a steady
stance – the saw chain must not
touch any objects and also must not
touch the ground
N With the left hand on handlebar,
press the chain saw firmly against
the ground – thumb wrapped
around the handlebar
N Place your right foot through the
rear handle
Between the knees or thighs
N Clamp the rear handle between the
knees or thighs
N Grip the handlebar firmly with the
left hand – thumb wrapped around
the handlebar
Starting
Standard versions
N With the right hand, pull the starter
grip slowly until you feel it engage –
and then give it a brisk strong pull –
simultaneously press down on the
handlebar – do not pull the starter
rope out all the way – risk of
breakage! Do not let the starter grip
snap back – guide it vertically back
into the housing so that the starter
rope can rewind properly
With a new engine or after a long period
of disuse, it may be necessary to pull the
starter rope several times – to prime the
fuel line.
