It is important that you read, fully understand and observe the following safety precautions and warnings. Read the instruction manual and the safety precautions periodically. Careless or improper use may cause serious or fatal injury.

English / USA USING THE CUTTING ATTACHMENTS However, the polymer-bladed STIHL PolyCut produces a better cut if there are no plants along the edge of the lawn. Sharpening is not necessary, and worn polymer blades are easily replaced. English / USA The 8-tooth grass cutting blade is recommended for cutting fern or reed. Use the power tool like a scythe to cut grass, i.e. sweep it to and fro in an arc. Both types of grass cutting blade have to be resharpened when all cutting edges are dull. !Warning! Using the Brush Knife !Warning! When fitted to the power tool, the brush knife is suitable for applications ranging from cutting matted grass to clearing weeds, wild growth and scrub.
English / USA Using the Circular Saw Blade Circular saw blades are suitable for thinning brush and cutting small trees up to a diameter of 4 cm (1 1/2”). Do not attempt to cut trees with larger diameters, since the blade may catch or jerk the trimmer/brushcutter forward. This may cause damage to the blade or loss of control of the power tool and result in serious injury. Use a chain saw for such work.
English / USA !Warning! MAINTENANCE, REPAIR AND STORING The risk of kickout is highest when cutting in the darker shaded area. To reduce the risk of kickout and resulting injury, do not use this area of the circular saw blade for cutting trees or shrubs. Special techniques using the lighter shaded areas of the blade to cut shrubs and trees should only be used by experienced operators with specialized training in the use and control of the trimmer/brushcutter.

English / USA 4-MIX Engine Fuel The STIHL 4-MIX engine features gas oil lubrication and must be run on a fuel mixture of gasoline and engine oil. This engine is certified to operate on unleaded gasoline and the STIHL twostroke engine oil at a mix ratio of 50:1. It operates otherwise on the 4-stroke principle. Your engine requires a mixture of highquality gasoline and quality two-stroke air cooled engine oil. Use mid-grade unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 89 (R+M/2).

As all moving parts have to bed in during the break-in period, the frictional resistances in the engine are greater during this period.
English / USA Motor Management Adjusting the Carburetor Standard Setting 249BA051 KN Exhaust emissions are controlled by the design of the fundamental engine parameters and components (e.g. carburation, ignition, timing and valve or port timing) without the addition of any major hardware. : Shut off the engine. : Mount cutting tool or attachment. : Check the air filter – clean or replace if necessary.
English / USA Fine Tuning At high altitude A slight correction of the setting of the high speed screw (H) may be necessary if engine power is not satisfactory when operating at high altitude or at sea level or after changing the tool. : Rule of thumb : Turn high speed screw (H) about a quarter turn for every 1000m (3300 ft) change in altitude. : Carry out standard setting. : Warm up engine for about 3 minutes.

To reduce risk of injury, wear eye and face protection and work gloves. 3 5 : Remove the rope rotor as described under "Replacing Starter Rope and Rewind Spring". : Remove spring housing and the parts of the spring. : Coat rope rotor bearing bore with non-resinous oil.
: Place the new spring housing on the recesses (arrows) – bottom plate must face up. When the starter rope is fully extended it must still be possible to rotate the rotor another half turn. If this is not the case, the spring is overtensioned and could break. Take one turn of rope off the rotor in such a case. : Fit the starter cover on the housing. : Tighten down the screws firmly.
English / USA Storing the Machine Sharpening Metal Cutting Tools For periods of about 3 months or longer : Drain and clean the fuel tank in a well ventilated area. : Dispose fuel properly in accordance with local environmental requirements. : Run engine until carburetor is dry – this helps prevent carburetor diaphragms sticking together. : Remove, clean and inspect the cutting tool. : Thoroughly clean the machine – pay special attention to the cylinder fins and air filter.
