22 Cleaning
► Open the shroud locks (1) by turning them 1/4 turn
counter-clockwise with the combination wrench.
► Remove the shroud (2).
► Clean the area around the air filter (3) with a damp cloth
or soft brush.
► Rotate the air filter a 1/4 turn counter-clockwise by hand.
► Remove the air filter.
► Rinse away coarse dirt from the outside of the air filter
under running water. Never spray the air filter with a
pressure washer.
► If the air filter is damaged, replace it.
► Spray the outside and inside of the air filter with STIHL
special cleaner or a cleaning agent with a pH value higher
than 12.
► Allow STIHL special cleaner or cleaning agent to act for
10 minutes.
► Use a soft brush to clean the outside of the air filter.
► Rinse the outside and inside of the air filter under running
water. Never spray the air filter with a pressure washer.
► Allow the air filter to air dry.
► After the air filter (3) has dried thoroughly, push it into
place by hand and rotate it clockwise until it engages in
position.
The “STIHL” logo should be horizontal.
► Place the shroud in position.
► Tighten the shroud locks until you hear an audible click.
WARNING
Cleaning agent may cause irritation if it contacts the skin or
eyes. Avoid contact. Read and follow all safety precautions
that accompany the cleaning agent. In case of contact with
the skin: Wash affected areas with plenty of water and soap.
In case of contact with the eyes: Rinse eyes with plenty of
water for at least 15 minutes and seek medical advice.
NOTICE
To reduce the risk of damage, never use a tool to install or
remove the air filter.
NOTICE
Exposure to high temperatures and oil can damage the air
filter and reduce filtering efficiency. Allow the air filter to air
dry away from external heat sources. Keep the air filter away
from oil.
