Installation Guide

Product Description:
This heavily pigmented acrylic latex matte finish stain is ideal for use on new or previously stained exterior woods. The
durable light fast pigments provide maximum fade resistance and color retention. This product is self-priming over
most substrates where extractive bleeding is not a concern. Solid Color Latex Stains are extremely high-hiding and
provide maximum stain durability while enhancing the natural grain and texture of the wood. Solid color stain is water
repellent, mildew and fungus resistant and long lasting.
Storm System Acrylic Matte Stain can be used over previously painted sealed surfaces, hardboard siding or smooth
planed cedar clapboards; surfaces which are not recommended for Linseed Oil Stains. This product contains wood
preservatives which will help protect the film against mildew, fungus, and moisture on a properly prepared surface. Not
for use on horizontal surfaces.
Precautions:
Remove all mildew before application with Storm System Mold and Mildew Stain Remover. Not recommended for
interior use. Avoid applying light color stains over dark stains or over creosote base stains. Air and surface
temperature must be 35° F during application and drying time. Do not apply to smooth side clapboards without
thorough sanding, weathering or pressure washing. Not recommended for decks or horizontal surfaces.

Application:
WARNING! If you scrape, sand or remove old paint from any surface, you may release lead dust. LEAD IS TOXIC.
EXPOSURE TO LEAD DUST CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE, ESPECIALLY IN
CHILDREN. PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD ALSO AVOID EXPOSURE. Wear a NIOSH-approved respirator to
control lead exposure. Carefully clean up with a wet mop or HEPA vacuum. Before you start, find out how to protect

www.epa.gov/lead.
Surface Preparation:
Surfaces must be thoroughly clean and dry. Always test a small area before application to the entire surface. All
mildewed areas should be cleaned with Storm System All Surface Mold & Mildew Stain Remover. New pressure
treated wood should be scrubbed with Storm System All Surface Cleaner to remove all surface deposits. Rinse
thoroughly and allow to dry.
New wood should be primed with Storm System Oil or Latex Wood Primer before applying white or light colors to avoid
bleeding and discoloration from water soluble wood extracts. This material can be applied by synthetic, bristle brush,
roller, pad applicator or spray gun. Stain only a few rows of siding or shingles at one time. Always start from the top
and work across towards a natural break or edge such as a window or door. On vertical siding, start a few boards at
the top and go all the way to the bottom. Avoid overlapping.
On hot summer days, a small amount of water can be added to this product to maintain a wet edge. Apply stain on the
shady side of a building and not in direct sun whenever possible. These hot weather limitations do not apply to spray
applications. This product is self-priming on new wood. New or unfinished wood to be stained with Storm System
White or other light colors, however, should be primed with Storm System Quick Dry Oil Primer No. 52344 or Storm
System Acrylic Latex Primer w/ Troubleshooter® Technology No. 54300 to avoid natural tannin or sugar bleed through
from the new wood.
