Intended Use This Spike Aerator has 100 spike tines that can penetrate up to 2” into the ground to allow water and nutrients to reach plant’s roots in compacted soil. Additional weight up to 70 lbs. can be added for deeper penetration. A moment of inattention while operating the tool may result in serious personal injury. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing, dangling objects, or jewelry. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewelry, or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
Specific Operation Warnings CRUSHING AND LACERATION HAZARD The Aerator is heavy. Be careful when moving or lifting as hands, finders, feet, and other body parts can be crushed. The Aerator has sharp spikes. Keep hands clear as these spikes can cut. DO NOT exceed the aerator’s maximum speed of 5 MPH. Exceeding this speed may result in loss of control during transport or braking. Do not exceed the Spike Aerator load capacity. Distribute the load evenly.
Assembly Tools Required: 1 - Flat Head Screwdriver 1 – 1/2” Wrench 1 – Set of Pliers or Hammer 1 – Pair of Gloves Step 1 Hardware Needed: 4 – Screw 3/8” x 1” (11) 4 – Nylon Nut 3/8” (12) 1 – Hitch Pin (14) 1 – Hairpin Cotter 1/8” (15) Step 1: Install Drawbar (3) to the Tray (4) using two Screws (11) and two Nylon Nuts (12). Assemble the Clevis (16) to the Drawbar (3) using two Screws (11) and two Nylon Nuts (12). Assemble the Hitch Pin (14) and the Hair Pin Cotter (15) to the Drawbar (3). See Figure 1.
Step 3 Hardware Needed: 1 – Hairpin Cotter 1/8” (15) 1 – Flat Washer 3/4” (13) Step 3: Fasten a Hairpin Cotter (15) onto the Tine Shaft (2) and place a Flat Washer (13) onto the Tine Shaft (2). Push the shaft through one End Panel (1). Put one Short Spacer (7) on the Tine Shaft (2). See Figure 3. Step 4 Hardware Needed: 1 – Hairpin Cotter 1/8” (15) 1 – Flat Washer 3/4” (13) Step 4: Position the 10 Tines (5) onto the Tine Shaft as follows: 1. Spike Disk (5) 2. Long Spacer (6) 3. Tine (5) 4.
Step 5 Hardware Needed: Step 5: Push the End Panels (1) toward the Tines (5) until there is no free play along the Tine Shaft and tighten the nuts on the End Panels. Push the end of the Tine Shaft with the fastened Hairpin Cotter (15) all the way towards the End Panel. Fasten the Tine Shaft with one Flat Washer (13) and one Hairpin Cotter (15) on the end of the Tine Shaft. See Figure 5. Before Each Use Always check for damaged or worn-out parts.
