To Install Batteries
Selecting Alkaline or Nickel-Cadmium
Batteries
The major advantage of alkaline batteries
is
that they provide more flashes per set.
While nickel-cadmium batteries will pro-
vide fewer flashes per set, they will recy-
cle your PZ4000AF slightly faster and can
be recharged hundreds of times for more
economical operation over the long run.

Slide the battery com partment
cover
toward the front of the unit. Now gently
fold
up
the
cover
in
the
direction
shown ®

Insert four AA size batteries (alkaline
or
nick
e
l-cadmium)
as
shown
.
The
battery
co
mpartment
has
a
guide
showing the correct positioning of the
batteries for proper polarity
(+, - con-
tacts
).

Press
the
cover
until
it
snaps
into
place.
CAUTION: When using your PZ4000AF
with external power sources, always keep
batteries inside the unit. Your PZ4000AF
will not interface with the came
ra
without
these batteries.
If
it
takes
at
least
30
seconds
for
the
READY
lamp
on the flash unit to
light
,
replace the batteries with new ones.
Using the Multi·Voltage
AC
Adapter or the Sunpak Powerpak
for
51
C-Volt Batteries (Both
Optional)

For AC operation,
be
sure
to
check that
the voltage selector on your
AC
Adapter
is
set to the appropriate voltage . Your
AC
Adapter has been
fa
ctory set for 120
V.
For use in other countries where 100
V,
220 V and 240 V are standard, you may
adjust the setting as illustrated. Remove
the small
Ph
illips head screw located next
to voltage window a
nd
rotate the selector
switch with a screw driver
to
the proper
voltage setting. After the voltage setting
has been made, the screw must be re-
installed to prevent accidental movement
of the selector switch.

For
AC
operation,
be
sure
to
check that
the voltage selector on your
AC
Adapter
is
set to the appropriate voltage. Your
AC
Adapter has been factory set for 220
V.
For us e in other countries where 117 V,
127 V and 240 V are standard, you may
adjust the
se
tting as illustrat
ed.
Remove
the small Phillips head screw located next
to voltage window and rotate the selector
switch with a screw driver to the proper
voltage setting . After the voltage setting
has been made, the screw
must be rein-
stalled to prevent accidental movement of
th8 selector switch.
When using Multi-Voltage

510-Volt
Batteries,

Plug into the AC/High Voltage socket
on
the flash and into a standard wall outlet
as illu strated. The
AC
Adapter will supply
virtually unlimited

indoor use.

When

optional
accessory
Sunpak
Powerpak
for 51 O-Volt Battery,
first attach the supplied plug
adapter
to
the end of Powerpak co
rd
and plug
it
into
the PZ4
000A
F in the
same
manner
as
you
would
with
the
Multi-
Vo
ltage
AC
Adapter. The Sunpak Powerpak for 510-
Volt Battery allows extremely rapid
re
cy-
cle
times
and
the
greatest
number
of
flashes.
CAUTIO
N:
Even when your PZ4000AF
is
used
w
ith
extern
al
power
sources
,
always store batteries inside the battery
compartment for dedicated function.
Your
PZ4000AF
is
not interfaced to the came
ra
without intemal batteries.

If the Multi-Vol tag e AC Adapter
is
in
correctly set, the adapter will not func-
tion
pr
ope
rly
and
may
damage
yo
ur
PZ4000AF.

Do
not use an

Adapter other than
the Sunpak AD-27.
Mounting the Flash to the Camera
CAUTION: When mou nting or detaching
the PZ4000AF from the came
ra
,
al
ways
make sure the On/O
ff
Switch
is
at "OFF "
position or the camera may be damaged.
• Slip
the
unit
onto
the
ca
mera'
s
hot
shoe. Turn the knurled lock ring clock-
wise to insure secure mounting to your
camera's shoe.
Automatic shut-down
In
order
to
increase
batter
y
life
,
the
PZ4000AF
automatically
switches
to a
power saving standby m
od
e after about 5
minutes
. The LCD panel and the flash
ready symbol will go blank. To reac
ti
vate
the flash, when using a camera of group
A, simply slide the switch to the "OFF"
p
os
ition and then
back
to
"ON
(
BATT,
HV)"
or
lightly
depress
the
shutter
release .
The
flash ready
indic
ato r will
return after a short time. When using a
camera of group
B,
slide the power switch
to
the "OFF"
pOSition
and then back
"O
N
(BATT, HV)" position.
Test
flash
You can test the flash by
pressing
the
manual release button 1 on the flash unit.
Power zoom
The PZ4000AF
is
equipped with a motor-
zoom reflector.
The
automatic
motor
zoom reflecto r is
contorolled by the camera and automat-
ically adapts itself to provide optimal flash
cove rage for the focal length of the lens .
Four focal lengths are used: 28 mm/35
mm/50 mm/80 mm.
The
fo
cusing range less than 28 mm is
not available.
Only the cameras of group A are dedi

and
for
the

meras

group
B ,
please
use
the

ith
"MAN
UAL"
mode.
