Suspended Ceiling
Installation Instructions
The Suspend-It Grid Installation Kit (#8865)
contains: grid clamps (2), leveling line (50 ft.),
eye lag screws for wood joists (16), an eye
lag screw drill adapter, 18-gauge hanger wire
(64 ft.) and fastening rivets (20).
Refer to the acoustical ceiling tile/ grid
manufacturer’s planning and installation guides
for proper instructions.
Terminology:
wall angle
– L-shaped perimeter runner
main tees
– longest and strongest
shaped runner
cross tees
– 2 ft. or 4 ft. secondary runner
Before Starting
1) Measure the room and draw to scale.
2)
Draw or snap a chalk centerline parallel to
the longest side of the room.
3)
Draw or snap chalk lines parallel to
centerline at 4 ft. intervals.
If more than 2 ft. remains between the outside
lines and the walls, position the main tees at
these marks.
If less than 2 ft. remains, position the main tees
beginning 2 ft. on either side of centerline at
4 ft. intervals.
4)
Beginning at the center of the room, draw
cross tees 2 ft. on center, perpendicular to
main tees.
5)
Add 2 ft. cross tees for 2 ft. x 2 ft. tiles.
Perimeter Angles
1) Draw or chalk a level line (parallel to
the ceiling) on the perimeter walls 2-1/4 in.
(minimum) below the lowest duct or obstacle.
2)
Nail the wall angles under the level line
using 6D nails at joists. To make nailing easier,
pre-drill the wall angle using a 1/8 in. drill bit or
grid punch.
3)
Using snips or a hacksaw, cut the wall angle
corners – 90º cuts at the inside corners and
45º cuts at the outside corners.
Main Tees
1) Referencing your room diagram, mark the
position of the main tees on the perimeter
wall angle.
Select one set of marks and
use the Grid Clamps
(#8861) to stretch
the Leveling
Line (#8860)
across the room.
Maintain at least a 3 in. clearance below the
lowest pipe, duct or beam, when determining
your ceiling height.
2)
Suspend-It offers three different types
of wire hooks for use with different ceiling
materials. For wood use
either Wire Fastening
Nail Hooks (#8855) or
Wood Eye Lag Screws
(#8856). For metal
ceilings, use Metal Eye
Lag Screws (#8857). Each
comes with installation
instructions.
Install hooks at 4 in.
intervals along the
position the main tees
will occupy. Make
certain all hooks are
firmly planted into the
ceiling before attaching
hanger wire.
3)
Attach the Hanging Wire (#8850 or
#8851) to the hooks. At 3/4 in. above
the leveling line, bend the hanger
wires at a 90º angle.
Repeat steps 1, 2 and 3 for
each of the main tees.
Pre-cut wire lengths
are available for
smaller suspensions
(#8854)

4)
Refer back to your room diagram and use
the grid clamps to stretch the leveling line
perpendicular to the main tees locating the
first row of cross tees.
5)
To install the main tees, trim them so that the
slot for the first row of cross tees lines up with
the leveling line.
6) Hang the main tees by pulling each hanger
wire through a hanger hole on the main tees,
bending and twisting it at least 3 times. If there
isn’t any conveniently located hanger hole,
make one by using a drill and a 1/8 in. bit or by
using the 1/8
in. Grid Punch (#8866).
Cross Tees
1) Install the cross tees by pushing the ends
through the main tees slots until a click is
heard. Where two cross tees intersect in the
same slot, be sure to insert the second cross
tees to the left of the first cross tee end.
2)
For a 2 ft. x 2 ft. grid pattern, bisect each 2 ft.
x 2 ft. module with a 2 ft. cross tee.
Perimeter
Every 4 ft. along
the perimeter wall
angle, the main tee
or cross tee should
be fastened with a
Fastening Rivet
(#8859).
Pre-punch the tees and wall
angles with the 1/8 in. grid punch then fasten
the rivet with a pop rivet tool.
Install Panels
Install the ceiling panels by tilting each panel
up through the opening and lowering it to rest
squarely on all tees.

para techos suspendidos
El Set para instalación de cuadrículas (#8865)
Suspend-It contiene: sargentos para cuadrículas (2),
línea de nivelación (15.2 m), tornillos tirafondo con ojal
para vigas de madera (16), un adaptador de tornillos
tirafondo con ojal para taladros, cable de suspensión
calibre 18 (19.5 m) y remaches de sujeción (20).
Refiérase a las guías de instalación y planeación de
los fabricantes de losetas acústicas/cuadrícula para
techos, para instrucciones apropiadas.
Terminología:
perfil angular
– perfiles que van en forma de “L”
perfil primario
– es el perfil más largo y resistente
perfil secundario
– perfiles secundarios
de 61 cm ó 1.2 m
Antes de empezar
1) Mida el área de trabajo y dibújelo a escala.
2)
Dibuje o trace con un carrete de tiza , una
línea central paralela al lado más grande del área
de trabajo.
3)
Dibuje o trace con un carrete de tiza, líneas
paralelas a la línea central a intervalos de 1.2 m.
Si sobran más de 61 cm entre las líneas de afuera
y las paredes, coloque los perfiles primarios en
estas marcas.
Si sobran menos de 61 cm, coloque los perfiles
primarios comenzando 61 cm en cualquiera de los
lados de la línea central a intervalos de 1.2 m.
4)
Comenzando en el centro del área de trabajo,
dibuje dos perfiles secundarios 61 cm en el centro,
perpendicular a los perfiles primarios.
5)
Añada dos perfiles secundarios de 61 cm para
hacer losetas de 61 cm x 61 cm.
Ángulos perimetrales
1) Dibuje o trace con un carrete de tiza, una línea de
nivelación (paralela al techo) en el perímetro de las
paredes, 5.7 cm (mínimo) abajo del ducto u obstáculo
que esté más abajo.
2)
Clave los perfiles angulares abajo de la línea de
nivelación utilizando clavos 6D en las vigas. Para
clavar más fácil, taladre primero los perfiles angulares
utilizando una broca de 3 mm o con una perforadora
para cuadrículas.
3) Utilizando un alicate o una sierra, corte los bordes
de los perfiles angulares – Cortes de 90º en los bordes
internos y cortes de 45º en los bordes externos.
Perfiles primarios
1) Tomando como referencia el
esquema del área de trabajo, marque
la posición de los perfiles primarios
en el perímetro de los perfiles
angulares. Seleccione un juego de
marcas y utilice los Sargentos para
cuadrículas (#8861) para estirar la
Línea de nivelación (#8860)
a lo
largo del
área de trabajo.
Mantenga un espacio mínimo
de 7.5 cm debajo de los
tubos, ductos o vigas, cuando
determine la altura del techo.
2) Suspend-It ofrece tres
tipos diferentes
de ganchos
para
sostener el
cableado
para utilizarse
con los
diferentes
tipos de
materiales para
techos. Para madera
utilice las Hembrillas
para sujetar cables
(#8855) ó los Tornillos
tirafondo con ojal
(#8856). Para techos
metálicos utilice los
Tornillos tirafondo con ojal para metal (#8857)
. Cada
uno viene con instrucciones de instalación.
Instale los ganchos a intervalos de 1.2 m, a lo largo
de la posición donde estarán los perfiles primarios.
Asegúrese que todos los ganchos queden bien
insertados en el techo antes de instalar el cableado.
3)
Instale el Cable de suspensión (#8850 ó
#8851) en los ganchos que instaló para
sostener el cableado. 2 cm sobre la
línea de nivelación, doble el cable de
suspensión a un ángulo de 90º.
Repita los pasos 1, 2 y 3 para
cada perfil primario. Se
encuentra disponible
cable precortado con
diferente largo para
suspensiones más
pequeñas (#8854)
.
4) Refiérase de nuevo al esquema del área de trabajo
y utilice los sargentos para cuadriculas para estirar
la línea de nivelación (#8860)
perpendicularmente de
los perfiles primarios, localizando la primera hilera de
perfiles secundarios.
5) Para instalar los perfiles primarios, córtelos
para que la ranuras de la primera hilera de perfiles
secundarios esté alineada con la línea de nivelación.
6) Cuelgue los perfiles primarios colocando cada uno
de los cables de suspensión dentro de las ranuras
en los perfiles primarios, doblando el cable y dándole
vueltas al menos unas tres veces. Si no hay una
ranura, hága una con un taladro utilizando una broca
de 3 mm o con una Perforadora para cuadrículas
de 3 mm (#8866).
Perfiles secundarios
1) Instale los perfiles secundarios empujando
los extremos a través de las ranuras de los
perfiles primarios hasta que escuche un “clic.”
En las ranuras donde se intercepten dos perfiles
secundarios en la misma ranura, asegúrese de meter
el segundo perfil secundarios al lado izquierdo del
extremo del primer perfil secundario.
2) Para una cuadrícula con patrón de 61 cm x
61 cm, biseque cada módulo de 61 cm x 1.2 m con un
perfil secundario de 61 cm.
Perímetro
Cada 1.2 m a lo largo del
perímetro de los perfiles
angulares, el perfil primario
o el perfil secundario debe
ser asegurado con
un Remache
de sujeción
(#8859).
Primero
perfore los
perfiles primarios,
secundarios y angulares con la perforadora para
cuadrículas de 3 mm, después ajuste el remache
con una herramienta para remachar.
Instalación de los paneles
Instale los paneles del techo, inclinando cada uno
hacia arriba a través de la abertura y bajándolo hasta
que cuadre al reclinarse sobre todos los perfiles.
