Troubleshooting Guide

Additional cautions/warnings:
• Adjacent surfaces may be adversely aected by direct
contact with Sustain Krete. Application of Sustain
Krete to polymers, rubber & asphalt will result in soft-
ening & degrading these surfaces. Since Sustain Krete
is a modied oil, turfgrass and other plant material,
e.g. annuals, perennials & shrubs will be damaged by
contact with Sustain Krete. It is vital to void overspray,
and to protect adjacent surfaces with plastic sheeting
or tarp material. It is recommended to apply SK with a
roller near the edges of the surface to avoid collateral
damage.
• Absorption time: Concrete is highly variable in its
composition. Therefore, absorption time will vary
widely. Absorption begins immediately upon appli-
cation. Typically Sustain Krete will be absorbed within
24 hours, but concrete surfaces may have a mottled
appearance for up to 14 days after application.
• Odor: Most concrete sealants contain noxious chem
-
icals which require personal protective equipment
(PPE). Sustain Krete is 93% bio-based, and therefore
our product does not have hazardous odors. However,
there is a vegetable oil odor which may persist for a
number of days following application, depending upon
weather conditions and the composition of the con-
crete.
Why does water not “bead up on the surface? Sustain
Krete is absorbed into the concrete surface, rather than
acting as a membrane on the surface. Therefore, liq-
uids such as rainfall on the surface will NOT “bead up
on the surface, but they will nevertheless be held at the
surface and move o the surface according to the pitch
of the concrete.
Testing for existing seal: If the concrete surface has
been previously sealed, and the seal is intact, Sustain
Krete should NOT be applied. However, these sealants
do break down over time, at which point it is safe and
recommended to apply Sustain Krete. To determine
the condition of the seal, you may perform a simple
“water test”. By pouring several ounces of water in sev-
eral test areas, you will notice that the water “beads up,
i.e. forms droplets, or on the other hand, just spreads
out on the surface. “Beading up is an indication that
the concrete has an intact seal. DO NOT APPLY SUS-
TAIN KRETE to this surface. If the water simply spreads
out, and does not bead up, then it is safe to apply
Sustain Krete.
