2 USING SUUNTO ELEMENTUM VENTUS 2.1 Time mode TIME mode is the default mode of the device. Time, date and absolute air pressure are shown on the TIME mode display. Rotate [A] upwards to toggle between absolute air pressure and date. 2.1.1 Viewing air pressure recordings Suunto Elementum Ventus measures the absolute air pressure automatically every minute. The air pressure graph is updated every hour. To view air pressure recordings: 1.
en Compare the air pressure graph to the lines printed on the display. When the air pressure has dropped 4hpa/0.12inHg or more during a 3-hour period (last 4 readings), there is a high possibilty of bad weather. Rising air pressure graph indicates good weather. NOTE: The air pressure graph is valid only if your altitude has not changed. 2.2 Sailing mode SAILING mode features a sailing timer and a race timer, which help you measure the time to start and the time during the race.
2.2.1 Using sailing timer Use the sailing timer to countdown the remaining time before the race start, so you will cross the start line at the right time. To set the sailing timer: 1. Press [B] to switch to SAILING mode. The default time shown in the sailing timer is 5'00. 2. Rotate [A] to adjust the time, if needed. 3. Press [A] to start and stop the timer. 4. To synchronize the sailing timer: 1. After the official countdown has started and you have started the sailing timer, wait for the next official signal. 2.
2.2.3 Using race timer When the sailing timer reaches zero, the race timer begins. The race timer is used for measuring the time used in a sailing competition. The timer stops and resets when it reaches its maximum value. Press [A] to stop/start the race timer again. 2.3 Compass view COMPASS view allows you to orient yourself in relation to magnetic North. Suunto Elementum Ventus has a tilt compensated compass which means that the reading is steady even if the compass is tilted. 1.
NOTE: COMPASS view will automatically disappear after 60 s. en NOTE: COMPASS cannot be accessed from SAILING mode when the sailing timer countdown is on. 2.3.1 Calibrating compass To check the compass accuracy: Go to COMPASS view and keep the device level and the display upwards. Tilt the display 45º towards yourself. If the reading changes more than 20º, you need to calibrate the compass. NOTE: Avoid any metal or magnetic fields as they disturb the calibration. The calibration includes two sequences.
3. The tilt calibration starts automatically after a successful level calibration. 4. Keep the device tilted 90º until you hear the confirmation sound. The device informs 'OK' when the calibration is successful. NOTE: The device informs 'FAIL' if the calibration does not succeed. If the calibration fails, re-calibrate the compass. TIP: Buckle the device strap, place the support cushion inside the strap and put it in the package so that the device is level.
