General Information Swan Corporation panels can be installed over a variety of products. If you intend to apply the panels to any surface other than those described, consult with a professional contractor. Use the following sections when installing this product over: Old Tile Depending on the condition of the existing wall surface, additional silicone may be required to ensure contact between the substrate and the wall panel.
Installation Procedure Followed carefully, these installation instructions will result in an easy, trouble-free installation of your Swan Corporation product. Any deviations, additions, and/or deletions from the prescribed installation, without prior written approval, will void the warranty covering this product. Not following the directions could also result in personal injuries, water damage, and other damage to floors, pipes, walls, and other portions of your building or home.
Installation Procedure New Construction Wallboard Installation IMPORTANT NOTICE To prevent possible water (wicking affect) damage to the wall, install the wall board with a 1/2 inch gap above the bathtub or shower floor side lip, the front edge of the bathtub or shower floor, and the room floor. Note: If the high gloss wall panel kit is to be installed over an existing wall surface, proceed to the next section. 1. Measure and cut out openings for the faucet(s), bathtub spout, and/or shower head.
Installation Procedure Wall Kits With Separate Corner Panels - TW-32, WW-6000, SW-7036, and SW-7060 High Gloss Wall Kits IMPORTANT NOTICE Before beginning, refer to the General Information section for important information on how to prepare the existing bathtub or shower walls for installation. Swan Corporation high gloss wall kits feature several distinct designs, depending on kit style and the size of the bathtub or shower enclosure.
Installation Procedure 2. Clean the back of the panel with denatured alcohol. IMPORTANT NOTICE Model SW-7036 and SW-7060 Shower Wall Kits. The sides of the corner panels are different widths. One side is 6 inches wide and the other is 8 inches wide. The orientation of the corner panel will affect the allowable width of the wall dimensions. Refer to the illustration for proper orientation.
Installation Procedure 4. Carefully position the corner panel and firmly press the surface of the corner panel against the walls. Apply hand pressure up and down and side-to-side, making sure all areas are in firm contact with the wall. It is important to apply hand pressure to the entire surface of the panel to bond it to the wall surface. Side Panels Most side panels are designed to fit a certain way.
Installation Procedure IMPORTANT NOTICE WARNING Any cutout should have rounded corners (sharp corners can promote stress cracks). Fumes Hazard The fumes from the silicone and solvents used by the installer can be harmful if used in an unventilated room. Always work in a well-ventilated area. To keep the area well-ventilated, open windows and use exhaust fans. If adequate ventilation is not achievable or practical, use respiratory protective equipment. 4.
Installation Procedure 1. If the wall kit includes apron strips, trial fit strips to the wall, with the pointed tip towards the bathtub or shower floor, as shown. Apron strips should be trimmed to fit tightly against the side of the bathtub/shower floor, even with the top edge. 8. Install the side panel. Carefully position the overlapping panel and press firmly to the wall. Keep the top edge of the panels aligned when installing adjacent panels.
Installation Procedure Back Panel IMPORTANT NOTICE Do not use oil-based cleaners, such as mineral spirits, to clean the panels. The oil in the cleaner will prevent the panel from properly adhering to the wall. Note: Corner wall units do not have back panels. If installing a corner shower wall unit, skip to the Temporary Bracing section. 3. Apply several dots of silicone over the back surface of the apron strip.
Installation Procedure 4. Install the back panel. Carefully center the overlapping panel and press firmly to the wall. Keep the top edge of the panels aligned when installing adjacent panels. Use even hand pressure from top to bottom and side-to-side to ensure solid wall contact. WARNING Fumes Hazard The fumes from the silicone and solvents used by the installer can be harmful if used in an unventilated room. Always work in a well-ventilated area.
Installation Procedure 1. Measure the distance between the back wall edges of the two installed corner panels. Subtract 23 inches from this measurement to determine the minimum required width of the extension panel. Extension Panel (Model SW-7060) IMPORTANT NOTICE This kit has an extension panel to fit back wall measurements from 36 to 60 inches wide. The extension panel is the same size as the side panels, but it has two overlapping edges and is clearly marked on the back.
Installation Procedure Wall Kits With Corner Side Panels RM-58, HA-58, SW-7032, and SW-NEO-DTF 3. If the back wall measurement is 47 to 51 inches, cut the extension panel in half and install one half of the panel overlapping each corner panel. The back panel will be installed between the two panel halves. HA-58 RM-58 SW-NEO-DTF SW-7032 Corner-Side Panels 4. Trial fit the cut extension panels and back panel. Make sure there is at least 1 inch of panel overlap at each edge.
Installation Procedure 3. Use the measurements to make a cardboard template in order to check for proper fit around the plumbing outlets. Trial fit the cardboard template, and adjust as necessary. 6. Trial fit the panel, and make any necessary adjustments. Note: The corner side panel should not extend all the way to the front edge of the bathtub. 4. Transfer the template measurements to the corner side panel.
Installation Procedure 7. Clean the back of the panel with denatured alcohol. 9. Carefully position the corner side panel tight against the corner and firmly press the surface of the panel against the walls. The corner side panel should not extend all the way to the front edge of the bathtub. 10. Apply hand pressure up and down and side-to-side, making sure all areas are in firm contact with the wall. It is important to apply hand pressure to the entire surface of the panel to bond it to the wall surface.
Installation Procedure 2. Clean the back of the panel with denatured alcohol. Back Panel 1. Trial fit the back panel(s), and make any necessary adjustments. If the existing bathtub or shower enclosure back wall has a window, the back panel must be cut to fit around the jam opening. Note: The optional WTK-1 Window Trim Kit can be used to finish out the installation and help protect the window from moisture damage. IMPORTANT NOTICE Do not use oil-based cleaners, such as mineral spirits, to clean the panels.
Installation Procedure Window Trim Kit WTK-1 4. Install the back panel. Carefully center the overlapping panel and press firmly to the wall. Keep the top edge of the panels aligned when installing the adjacent panels. Use even hand pressure from top to bottom and side-to-side to ensure solid wall contact. 1. Measure width (A) and depth (B) of the window opening. Cut the sill panel 1-1/2 inches less than the width of the window opening (cut off the end with the factory holes, they are not used).
Installation Procedure 4. Apply silicone adhesive to the underside of the sill panel, as shown. Install the sill panel, centered in the window opening, 3/4 inches from each side wall. 2. Measure, mark, and cut the sill panel to window sill depth measurement (B). Trial fit the sill panel. Sand the cut edge with medium grit sandpaper. Note: Press the front lip of the sill panel tightly against the existing tub or shower wall panel. B 3.
Installation Procedure 6. Repeat Step 5 to install the remaining vertical panel. 1. Place two or more braces against the back wall. Place two braces on the panels that are 48 inches or less and three or four braces on the panels used on back walls greater than 48 inches wide. IMPORTANT NOTICE Refer to the Temporary Bracing section for information on bracing to hold the panels in place until the silicone adhesive is completely set (usually 24 hours). This will allow proper curing of the silicone. 7.
Installation Procedure 4. Insert (wedge) blocks or cross braces between the front to rear panel braces and the back panel braces. These blocks or braces must apply pressure to the back panel to hold it in place. IMPORTANT NOTICE To prevent scratches or other damage, make sure there are no nails or other foreign objects in the surface of the bracing that is placed against the panel. Also, to prevent possible damage to the walls, do not apply excessive pressure to the braces.
Installation Procedure Cleaning and Maintenance Caulking Care and Cleaning Note: Install any optional accessories and/or optional window trim kit before caulking edges and seams. Swan Corporation high gloss products are stain and abrasion resistant; however, the finish requires reasonable care. 1. Apply a bead of color coordinated silicone caulk to the joint where the bottom of the wall panels meet the shower or bathtub ledge. IMPORTANT NOTICE 2.
