OPERATION
Grass Height & Cutting Suggestions:
Do not attempt to cut wet grass.
The average lawn should be cut to 2 ½” during the cool season and to over 3” during the hot
months. For healthier and better looking lawns, mow often and after moderate growth.
As a rule, never cut more than 1/3 of the total grass blade length. Correct mowing height can
reduce weeds and lawn disease.
For best performance, grass over 6 inches in height should be mowed twice. The first cut
should be set relatively high and the second set to the desired height.
For best looking results and a healthier lawn, mow in different directions each time you mow.
• Example: If you mow going north and south, the next time you should mow going east
and west.
Deck Adjustment
The deck adjustment is done at one single point on the rear axle of the mower.
To raise the deck, turn the adjustment handle clockwise. To lower the deck, turn the handle counter-
clockwise.
Additional adjustment can be made by repositioning the blade spacers located on the blade spindle.
Drive Wheel Detent
Before ever attempting to disengage the drive wheel from the sprocket, first make certain that the
engine is shut off, key is removed and the machine is resting on level ground.
Image one shows the wheel with the pin/latch engaged into the sprocket. This allows the machine to
drive when the engine is running and the drive pedal is depressed.
Image two shows the wheel with the pin/latch disengaged. This allows the wheel to spin freely from the
sprocket, enabling the machine to roll freely.
When reengaging the pin/latch, the pin should have an audible “click” once it is finally engaging the
sprocket. To check this you can push on the machine, it should not roll freely at this point.
