TV/DTV SECTION TV OPERATION AND SETTINGS WATCHING TV TV DTV DTV The unit selects available TV channels automatically when you connect an Antenna or Cable TV signal to it. To reset TV channels, see page 21. If you are using a Cable Box or Satellite Receiver, you do not need to set channels at the unit. 1 Press [POWER] to turn on the unit. 2 To watch TV, use [CH. TV/DTV SECTION ON-SCREEN DISPLAY MTS (Multi-channel Television Sound) SYSTEM TV DTV VCR MTS allows for reception of sound other than the main audio program. You can listen or record monaural audio sound, stereo sound or Secondary Audio Program (SAP). WHEN RECEIVING AN MTS BROADCAST Press [TV/VCR Audio] repeatedly to select a sound mode when you watch or record a TV program. • The mode changes according to the broadcast among "STEREO", "SAP" and "MONO" every time you press the button.
TV DTV MENU SCREEN TV You can set Sleep Timer and picture adjustment with [PICTURE / SLEEP]. SLEEP TIMER SETTING The Sleep Timer function is used to turn off the unit without pressing [POWER] after a desired time. DTV This section describes the overview of the menu screen displayed when you press [SET-UP]. For more details, see the reference page for each item. The menu screen consists of the function setting items below.

TV/DTV SECTION OTHER SETTINGS AUTO PRESET CH If you switch wires (e.g. between antenna and CATV) or if you move the TV to a different area after the initial setting, or if you need to add the DTV channel you deleted, you will need to perform AUTO PRESET CH again. This function lets you easily select the receivable channels with [K / L] and the TV memorizes them even if you switch wires.

VCR SECTION VIDEO CASSETTE This unit will operate with any cassette that has the mark. For best results, we recommend the use of high-quality tapes. Do not use poor quality or damaged tapes. ERASE PREVENTION Break off the tab on the back edge of the cassette to prevent accidental erasing of recording. Tab SELECTING TAPE SPEEDS Before recording, select the tape speed from : SP mode (Standard Play) or SLP mode (Super Long Play). You can also play a tape recorded in LP mode (Long Play).
SPECIAL PLAYBACK AUTO REPEAT PLAYBACK VCR VCR 2 Press [SET-UP]. Use [K / L] to point to "USER’S SET UP", then press [ENTER]. Use [K / L] to point to "RENTAL". Press [ENTER] to select "ON". VCR SECTION SEARCH FUNCTION PICTURE SEARCH INDEX SEARCH VCR VCR This function is useful in finding or skipping over a particular scene on a tape. In this mode, the sound will be muted. This function allows you to index the starting point to make it easy to reach the point in either fast forward or rewind mode. 1 During playback, press [REV E] or [FWD D] to view at a high speed (in reverse/forward). • Every time you start recording, an index is marked automatically.
RECORDING NORMAL RECORDING Use [CH. K / L] or the Number buttons to select the channel to be recorded. Press [SPEED] to select the desired tape speed (SP/ SLP). Press [REC] to start recording. No picture or sound • Check if the power is on. • Check the outlet connection. • Check the antenna or cable connection to the main unit. • When the outside antenna is used, check the wire condition and connection. • Try to view other channels. It may be the problem on the broadcasting station.

Cannot go into recording mode • Make sure the cassette has an erase-prevention tab. If necessary, cover the hole with plastic tape. Timer recording does not work or results in failure • Make sure the begin/end time is set correctly. • Make sure the power is off to activate timer recording.
MAINTENANCE CABINET CLEANING DEGAUSSING • Wipe the front panel and other exterior surfaces of the TV with a soft cloth immersed in lukewarm water and wrung dry. A degaussing circuit in this unit clears up color errors on the TV screen. Color errors occur when there is any excess magnetism close to the unit. This circuit is designed to operate once when the unit is first plugged in. If you see minor color errors on the screen, unplug the unit for approximately 30 minutes.
