1 Chapter Before You Start Thank you for purchasing this Synology product! Before setting up your new Synology NAS, please check the package contents to verify that you have received the items below. Also, make sure to read the safety instructions carefully to avoid harming yourself or damaging your Synology NAS. Safety Instructions Keep away from direct sunlight and away from chemicals. Make sure the environment does not experience abrupt changes in temperature or humidity. 2 Chapter Hardware Setup Tools and Parts for Drive Installation • A screwdriver • At least one 2.5” SATA drive (please visit www.synology.com for compatible drive models) Warning: If you install a drive that contains data, the system will format the drive and erase all existing data. Please back up any important data before installation. Install Drives 1 Pull and remove one of the drive trays.
3 Insert the loaded drive tray into the empty drive bay. Important: Make sure the drive tray is completely inserted. Otherwise, the drive might not function properly. 4 Repeat the steps above to install all prepared drives. 5 Drives are numbered as illustrated below. Note: If you want to create a RAID volume, we recommend that all installed drives are of the same size to make the best use of drive capacity.
Add a RAM Module on Synology NAS The optional Synology DDR3 RAM module is designed for Synology NAS memory expansion. Follow the steps below to install, check, or remove a RAM module on your Synology NAS. To install a RAM module: 1 Shut down your Synology NAS. Disconnect all cables connected to your Synology NAS to prevent any possible damages. 2 The RAM modules are located at the bottom of DS620slim. 3 Remove the 4 screws that secure the bottom panel. Lift up the panel and place it to the side.
5 Place the bottom panel back by sliding in the front bottom panel first as illustrated below. Place back and tighten the 4 screws you removed in step 3. 6 Reconnect the cables you removed in step 1, and then press and hold the power button to turn on your Synology NAS. To make sure Synology NAS recognizes the new memory capacity: 1 Install DiskStation Manager (DSM). See Install DSM on Synology NAS for more information. 2 Log in to DSM as admin or a user belonging to the administrators group.
Start Up Your Synology NAS 1 Connect one end of the AC power adapter to the power port of the Synology NAS. Connect the other end to a power outlet. 2 Connect at least one LAN cable to one of the LAN ports of the Synology NAS. Connect the other end to your switch, router, or hub. 3 Press the power button on the front panel to turn on your Synology NAS.

3 Chapter System Maintenance Replace the Malfunctioning Fan If the cooling fan located on the back of the Synology NAS malfunctions, please follow the steps below to remove and replace the malfunctioning fan with a new one. 1 Power off the Synology NAS and remove the power cord. 2 Turn to the back of the Synology NAS. Lift and open the fan case with a flathead screwdriver. 3 Find the power cord of the fan and carefully unplug it. 4 Replace the malfunctioning fan with a new one.
4 Chapter Install DSM on Synology NAS After hardware setup is finished, please install DiskStation Manager (DSM) – Synology’s browser-based operating system – on your Synology NAS. Install DSM with Web Assistant Your Synology NAS comes with a built-in tool called Web Assistant that helps you download the latest version of DSM from the Internet and install it on your Synology NAS. To use Web Assistant, please follow the steps below. 1 Power on the Synology NAS.

Customer may contact any authorized Synology distributor or reseller or Synology Support to obtain assistance in obtaining an RMA, and must provide proof of purchase and product serial number when asking for such assistance.
